Tá an réamhullmhúchán ina leith sin á dhéanamh faoi láthair i gcomhar le Údarás na Gaeltachta. Tá ráite ag an Údarás nach foláir a bheith ag...

Dinny McGinley: Dírím aird an Teachta ar an bhfreagra a thug mé inniu ar Cheist Tosaíochta Uimh 2. Topical Issue Debate: Drug Crime (30 Apr 2013)

Dinny McGinley: First, I am speaking on behalf of the Minister for Justice and Equality, who is unable to be present, as Deputy Keating has noted, due to Cabinet business this evening. The Minister wishes to thank the Deputy for raising this matter. Tackling the issue of drug misuse in society remains one of the most complex challenges the Government faces. The national response to the problem is set out...

Topical Issue Debate: Drug Crime (30 Apr 2013)

Dinny McGinley: I will certainly convey the Deputy's concerns and queries to both the Minister and the Department. Since his appearance on television last Friday night we are all aware of the Deputy's personal interest in this scourge in our community. We watched with great interest, and I commend the Deputy, without being patronising in any way. He is at the coal face, knows the problem and has a great...

Topical Issue Debate: Inter-Country Adoptions (30 Apr 2013)

Dinny McGinley: I am taking this issue on behalf of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Deputy Frances Fitzgerald. The adoption process, in Ireland and worldwide, has undergone a great deal of change recently. The primary catalyst for this change has been worldwide efforts to adhere to the principles of the Hague Convention on adoption. In Ireland, this change can be attributed to comprehensive...

Topical Issue Debate: Inter-Country Adoptions (30 Apr 2013)

Dinny McGinley: I assure the Deputy that the points he has raised will be brought to the attention of the Minister, who is familiar with the difficulties he outlined. I hope some of the problems arising will be addressed in the adoption (information and tracing) Bill 2013, which the Minister intends to introduce in the coming months. I cannot be more accurate than that at this stage.

Written Answers — Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht: Languages Programme (30 Apr 2013)

Dinny McGinley: As I indicated in my response to Dáil question number 15 on 13 March 2013, my Department is actively engaged in language promotion with the Northern Ireland Executive and the Scottish Government, particularly through the provision of funding and support for the work of the two agencies of An Foras Teanga, the Ulster-Scots Agency and Foras na Gaeilge. As previously outlined, one of the...

Dinny McGinley: I thank the Senator for raising this issue. I am deputising for the Minister for Health who is unavoidably absent this evening.

Seanad: Adjournment Debate: Labour Court Recommendations (30 Apr 2013)

Dinny McGinley: The Government and the HSE, as the statutory body responsible for the delivery of health and personal social services, recognise the important and valuable role of home helps in enabling older persons to live in their homes and communities in accordance with Government policy. Home help and home care are delivered by the HSE, voluntary, not-for-profit and private service providers. These...

Seanad: Adjournment Debate: Labour Court Recommendations (30 Apr 2013)

Dinny McGinley: I thank Senator O'Brien for raising the matter. His comments will be conveyed to the Minister. I have much sympathy for the case Senator O'Brien is making. I realise, recognise and acknowledge the excellent work being done by home helps throughout the country. Unfortunately, we are in a financial situation in this country whereby there are things we can afford and other matters that we...

Topical Issue Debate: Property Taxation Administration (2 May 2013)

Dinny McGinley: I thank Deputy O'Mahony for raising this matter. The feedback on the ease with which the local property tax, LPT, can be paid has generally been positive. I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that over 400,000 people have successfully filed their LPT returns to date and have either paid immediately or selected one of the other available payment options. I understand this afternoon's...

Topical Issue Debate: Property Taxation Administration (2 May 2013)

Dinny McGinley: The Minister is satisfied that Revenue has provided a significant amount of information on payment options and both the LPT return and the booklet, Your Guide to Local Property Tax, covers this in some detail. It is also open to property owners who have queries on any aspect of the various payment options to call Revenue's dedicated LPT helpline. We want to make it as easy as possible for...

Topical Issue Debate: Commemorative Coins (2 May 2013)

Dinny McGinley: I thank Deputy McNamara for submitting this topic for discussion as it is a matter in which I have an interest. I understand the Central Bank's numismatic advisory committee has recommended that in 2014 the millennium of the Battle of Clontarf be marked with the issue of a €20 gold proof coin. The Central Bank will shortly submit its recommendations for the 2014 collector coin...

Topical Issue Debate: Commemorative Coins (2 May 2013)

Dinny McGinley: I acknowledge the Deputy's interest in promoting Killaloe where Brian Boru was born. As a part of his constituency, it is only natural that he would seek to do so. Killaloe is Brian Boru's place of birth and Clontarf is the location where he met his heroic death on Good Friday 1014 while praying for Ireland in his tent. Another place near my constituency where Brian Boru could also be...

Topical Issue Debate: Commemorative Coins (2 May 2013)

Dinny McGinley: As the Deputy from Tipperary knows well, the ashes of Brian Boru rest in the ancient city of Armagh. I hope that when we commemorate and celebrate Brian Boru's life, we will include in the reckoning Killaloe, Clontarf, Armagh and other places along the way. To address the core of the Deputy's question, a coin will be issued to commemorate Brian Boru's death 1,000 years ago.
