Order of Business. (17 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: From the Ceann Comhairle's perspective, nothing arises on the Order of Business. We have had a farcical situation this morning whereby questions were asked on the time a committee met, whether it was raining or whether the sun was shining.

Order of Business. (17 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: The Ceann Comhairle has recently been very tight about the regulations to an extent that none of his predecessors was.

Order of Business. (17 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: None of the Ceann Comhairle's predecessors was as restrictive. He has developed a system of talking while everybody else is talking so as to drown out legitimate questions the Taoiseach wants to answer.

Order of Business. (17 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach is not out of order and neither am I.

Order of Business. (17 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: I will tell the Ceann Comhairle where I consider him to be wrong. Document No. 52 is a Bill on foreign affairs, namely the British-Irish Agreement (Amendment) Bill 2002 which deals with support programmes for the EU. Britain is a negotiating party to the discussion on Iran and I am asking the Taoiseach if he considers that Ireland has a role as a non-aligned country.

Death of Staff Member: Expressions of Sympathy. (18 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: I concur with the Tánaiste in this sentiment, an expression of sympathy on the death of Ms Courtney. I am sorry that I did not hear of it until now, but I saw her in the Houses last week. My sympathy and regrets go to her family and all her friends. The parliamentary reporters in this House have always done a fabulous job, and in that sense Ms Courtney did the State some service. We...

Order of Business. (18 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: Deputy Rabbitte yesterday asked the Taoiseach a question, to which he answered that the former chief executive officer of Aer Lingus wished to steal the assets of the State company. The Tánaiste has often complimented Mr. Willie Walsh for the condition in which he left the company. Does the Tánaiste share the view of the Taoiseach as expressed in his statement yesterday? Is that the...

Order of Business. (18 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: Does the Tánaiste share the view of the Taoiseach that the former chief executive officer of Aer Lingus wished to steal the assets of the State company?

Order of Business. (18 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: Has the Tánaiste, as Minister for Health and Children, examined the consequences of a European Court of Justice ruling on the liability of states regarding patients who must travel abroad for treatments? Will this ruling require her to introduce legislation? SI 171 of 2000 dealt with the dissolution and revocation order of the National Rehabilitation Board and SI 170 of 2000 dealt with the...

Social Partnership. (23 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach admits that he is pessimistic about the possibilities of concluding this. He said things were 90% complete, but that there had been no deliberations on pay and pensions. What are the sticking points as he currently sees them? What are the significant non-pay issues that are outstanding? Will we have a director for employment rights compliance, as has been mentioned in some...

Social Partnership. (23 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: Will the Taoiseach address the issue of Iarnród Éireann?

Leaders' Questions. (23 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach should have been a weather forecaster. His personal statement to the House earlier in respect of his comments last week about a former chief executive of Aer Lingus dealt in part with the flak that might have flown if he had waited until now to make it. The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform said that Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats will be as thick as...

Leaders' Questions. (23 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: Is there a firm estimate of the cost of the early child care supplement scheme? How can the Taoiseach explain the variations between the estimates of the Minister and the Minister of State, on the one hand, and the Department of Social and Family Affairs on the other hand? Does the Government intend to review the guidelines and the decision to extend the scheme to children who are not...

Leaders' Questions. (23 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach is referring to the child benefit scheme. I know about that. I referred to the early child care supplement.

Leaders' Questions. (23 May 2006)

Enda Kenny: Yes, I am talking about the early child care supplement, not the child benefit scheme. I know about the latter scheme.
