- Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations 2016: Motion (14 Dec 2016)
Kevin O'Keeffe: I, too, welcome this motion. The horse and greyhound sectors are important industries to the economy. The money being proposed is welcome. Many families supplement their incomes from their involvement in the horse and greyhound sector. It has to be welcomed. It shows we are backing the industry. Deputy Cahill mentioned the bookmakers. I wholeheartedly agree with him. It causes...

- Road Traffic Bill 2016 [Seanad]: Report Stage (Resumed) and Final Stage (15 Dec 2016)
Kevin O'Keeffe: I fully support the amendment. In this day and age, we must have a system that can be efficient in passing information from one sector of the courts system to the Garda. The Minister should look upon this more urgently. It is pointless having checkpoints if the Garda files are not being updated from the court system. I support the inclusion of the amendment.

- Road Traffic Bill 2016 [Seanad]: Report Stage (Resumed) and Final Stage (15 Dec 2016)
Kevin O'Keeffe: As Deputy Eugene Murphy said, we are in the era of modern technology. The biggest problem is defining the use of mobile phones. The easiest part of a mobile phone is the talking part, but there is an issue with getting a number. With a hands-free kit in the car, keying a phone number into the dash is what causes the danger, not talking on the phone. Defining the use of the mobile phone...

Kevin O'Keeffe: Although I do not condone what is happening in Apollo House, I have sympathy. Housing applicants in my constituency ring me day in day out saying they are already threatening to break down the doors of empty properties in my constituency that have been vacant for a long time already. The onus is on the providers and owners to get off their butts and get something done about making these...
- Planning and Development (Housing) and Residential Tenancies Bill 2016 [Seanad]: Report Stage (Resumed) (16 Dec 2016)
Kevin O'Keeffe: Much of what I want to say has already been said, but I wish to reiterate a number of points. The Minister is stabbing local authorities in the back. Previous speakers have mentioned how much the role of local authorities has been diminished. The Minister seems to be further diminishing it and I am very disappointed to see this. Planners who worked through the previous ten or 15 years did...
