- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: Mr. Walsh can come back to us.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: Do the witnesses know how many such sites are in Limerick?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: Is it the case that Limerick council does not have any site that belongs to it and that is derelict?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: That is a great policy to have. I fully commend that.

Thomas Gould: The witnesses can come back in afterwards.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: The witnesses representing Limerick City and County Council said that the council has 76 properties that it either has sold or is in the process of selling and that it compulsorily purchased. Could those properties not be used for social housing or are they business properties? If the latter, why are they not being used as social housing? I thank the witnesses. I really appreciate their...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: We discussed targets for 2026; do the local authorities think they will reach their targets on social, affordable and cost rental between now and then?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: If they reach their targets will their housing lists reduce as a result? I ask because so many local authorities appear before the committee and say they will meet their targets but there are so many people coming on the housing lists on the other side that even if they hit all their targets their lists would still be worse in 2026. It the witnesses hit all their Government targets, will...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: They should know the answer.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: Just to clarify, do the local authorities' building and targets supersede the number of people who are coming on the list every year? I have a final question, Chair. Limerick made a point about 76 houses they have either sold or are going to sell. Can I ask if they are being sold to investment funds or to cuckoo funds or are they being sold to ordinary people?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: That is right.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Implementing Housing for All: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: What we do not want is investment funds buying potential homes from people who need them. I would have a concern about that.
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Flood Risk Management (15 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: Glanmire flooded again recently, which affected businesses and homes. I was there on the night and saw the frustration and anger. The people and businesses in the community of Glanmire have been putting up with ten years of broken promises. They are sick of delays. This is like the Cork event centre. Every year, there is an announcement on flood protection for Glanmire but it is not...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Staff (15 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: I raise with the Minister of State the issue of the housekeeping attendance in Cork University Hospital. The pay scale of a number of positions in the hospital have been reviewed. They will see increases in the new year and I welcome that. However, housekeepers are to be excluded from this increase. This is despite Cork University Hospital’s providing housekeeping services 24-7....
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Staff (15 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: I thank the Minister of State. I recognise her point about the general round of pay increases. She touched on the main issue, that of the job evaluation scheme, which is the least fair aspect. These workers feel that the evaluation has not been fair on them and their work. We all accept that they are front-line workers. They are continuing to do the work they did during the pandemic....
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Staff (15 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: I thank the Minister of State.
- Energy Regulations: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (16 Nov 2022)
Thomas Gould: Last weekend, hundreds of people came onto the streets of Cork city to call on the Government to take action. So far, it has not done enough and people are suffering in this cost-of-living crisis. Their voice and message were clear. People are sick of rising fuel and energy prices and the Government must do more. Caitriona Twomey from Cork Penny Dinners spoke and outlined how that charity...
