- Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Bill 2018: Report Stage (Resumed) (5 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: As usual, my contribution will be very brief. I echo what the Leas-Cheann Comhairle said, namely, that respect be shown from every side of the House because the people outside would expect that. At no stage, have I spoken twice nor have I used my seven minutes. I would say I have used two to three minutes maximum. That is sufficient for me. Perhaps it is not sufficient for some people...
- Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Bill 2018: Report Stage (Resumed) (5 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: This is probably one of the areas on which I have received most representations. I remind Deputies that these representations have been made by eminent doctors, nurses and midwives. It is not simply a question of me asking a "What if?" question and setting out what I believe. I know many of these people personally. They are eminent people who have looked after people very well for many...

- Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Local Government Bill 2018: Committee Stage (5 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: I represent part of the constituency - not a big part but an important one. I support Deputies Fitzmaurice, Connolly and Rabbitte on this issue. There is a major problem with funding and offering a small amount of money to the various municipal districts is not much of a carrot because the deficit is so big. The city and the county have a total population of roughly 320,000, which is very...
- Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Local Government Bill 2018: Committee Stage (5 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: I have the figures.
- Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Local Government Bill 2018: Committee Stage (5 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: It is quite substantial, then. Why is the Minister shaking his head?
- Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Local Government Bill 2018: Committee Stage (5 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: There are between 70,000 and 80,000 in the city. I checked the figures yesterday. It would be no harm to verify them. Whether it is 250,000 or 300,000, it is a huge number of people and we need real planning and real money. The local authority does not have any faith in the system. Outlying areas such as Ballinasloe, which I represent, have felt completely left out for years. There are...

- Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Local Government Bill 2018: Committee Stage (5 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: I have to go. I apologise because I was wrong and the Minister of State was right.
- Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Local Government Bill 2018: Committee Stage (5 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: Do not say that.
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Agriculture Cashflow Support Loan Scheme (6 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: 11. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if the plans announced in budget 2018 to introduce a low-cost cashflow loan scheme for farmers have been abandoned in view of the fact that there seems to be no movement on a hardship fund to help bridge cashflow difficulties for farmers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [50998/18]
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Agriculture Cashflow Support Loan Scheme (6 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: Will the Minister clarify whether the plans announced in budget 2018 to introduce a low-cost cashflow loan scheme for farmers have been abandoned, given that there seems to be no movement on the hardship fund to help bridge the cashflow difficulties for farmers?
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Agriculture Cashflow Support Loan Scheme (6 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: While I have to welcome what the Minister says will come on board in 2019, it should be remembered that this was announced in budget 2018. If I am not mistaken, the Minister made a further announcement at the IFA AGM in January and indicated that it would be established in the autumn. I push this point on the basis that these are the most challenging times for farmers I have ever seen....
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Agriculture Cashflow Support Loan Scheme (6 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: While I welcome that, one must consider what has happened already in 2018. There was a terrible fodder crisis last spring and the weather was appalling. In fact, we did not have a spring as it seemed winter went into summer. Farmers were initially unable to get fodder. In the Minister's own part of the country, the dairy sector was severely affected. There is now a beef price crisis....
- Written Answers — Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Beef Industry (6 Dec 2018)
Eugene Murphy: 29. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he will address the crisis in the beef industry; the measures he plans to introduce to alleviate the near collapse of the sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [50976/18]
