- Adoption Bill 2009 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed) (26 Nov 2009)
James Reilly: As my good friend, Deputy Creed, has said, they are very long in Cork but they are even longer in Dublin. I regret that the Minister cannot be with us, although I know another report is being issued now. I thank the Minister of State, Deputy Haughey, for being here and I know he has an interest in child welfare. It can take anything from three to four and a half years to gain a complete...

- Order of Business (1 Dec 2009)
James Reilly: On 11 November, I wrote to the Ceann Comhairle about a debate that took place here on 4 November. During that debate the Minister for Health and Children told me I was wrong to say that the HIA informed me that 12,000 people had cancelled their health insurance. On the same day I produced a response to a parliamentary question by Deputy Richard Bruton, which clearly showed that 21,000...

- Report by Commission of Investigation into the Catholic Archdiocese of Dublin: Statements (Resumed) (3 Dec 2009)
James Reilly: Normally one is pleased to speak in the House. Unfortunately, today's discussion is one that gives none of us any pleasure. This is a report on the response of the church, as an institution, to the revelations of child abuse. There is no question but that child abuse did occur. I find the response of the church disappointing. Many of its senior members seem to continue to live in denial,...

- Hospital Services. (8 Dec 2009)
James Reilly: I hope the Minister is safe from the frog counting exercise, as she seems to have one in her throat. The question was very straightforward; it asked for details on hospitals cutting back services ahead of Christmas to balance the books and the nature of those services. The Minister made a statement on the matter, but she did not tell us the services that will be cut or the hospitals...
- Hospital Services. (8 Dec 2009)
James Reilly: They are massaging the figures.
- Hospital Services. (8 Dec 2009)
James Reilly: I accept that hospitals must live within their budgets but I reiterate what I stated. An employee of the Houses was told she would have to be on the waiting list at Tallaght hospital for one year before the NTPF would accept her. That is a fact. Another man, who is 53 and has a painful knee, is awaiting an orthopaedic outpatient appointment but cannot get one for two and a half years....
- Hospital Services. (8 Dec 2009)
James Reilly: The obvious question is how can the Minister tell us that patients are not being affected detrimentally when this is the reality.

- Hospital Services. (8 Dec 2009)
James Reilly: We know the Minister has a large number of plans and that some of Professor Drumm's bonus was apparently based on having teams in place. For the most part, these teams are virtual in nature. In other words, they do not really exist. A letter of intent is just that and it has no legal status or standing. My question is very straightforward and seeks to discover the number of contracts that...
- Hospital Services. (8 Dec 2009)
James Reilly: I just want to know the number in respect of which contracts have been signed. We have been negotiating for years. The primary care strategy has been in place since 2001.
- Hospital Services. (8 Dec 2009)
James Reilly: How many contracts have been signed?
