- Leaders' Questions. (26 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: I recall the incident which occurred 20 years ago in Chernobyl and our thoughts and prayers are with the people of the Ukraine. On this day 20 years ago 80 miles north of Kiev, a fireball exploded in one of four reactors, affecting not only ecosystems, human genes and the entire northern hemisphere but also the collective psyche of the developed western world. As the Government is aware, we...
- Leaders' Questions. (26 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach has responded on what the Government has been doing about this. The advice given to the Government and the decision it took on the closure of Sellafield was to proceed through the United Nations, which was the incorrect approach. Enda Kenny: To follow on Deputy Rabbitte's question, I welcome the report of the IMC, which points to further progress regarding the IRA fulfilling its commitments. I urge the DUP, in particular, to use the opportunity presented by the forthcoming recall of the Assembly to engage further in dialogue that might bring about further trust before the recall of the Executive later in the year. Does the...

Enda Kenny: Maybe that is a reason why the Government Chief Whip should introduce his proposals on Dáil reform so we can have a real discussion about this.
- Order of Business. (26 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach was very forthright this morning in his response to questions about the preparedness of the Government and the country in the event of an accident at Sellafield. He spoke about international best practice and high ranking experts being here. In that context can I ask him about No. 72, the criminal justice (suppression of acts of nuclear terrorism) Bill? Given all the activity in...

Enda Kenny: Following on what the Minister for Finance said, on the last occasion between Christmas and Easter the Government only published 50% of its list of proposed legislation. As we now approach the summer season with 400,000 provisional drivers on the roads, 120,000 of whom are waiting for driving tests, will we see the road traffic Bill in the next ten weeks, dealing with outsourcing of driving...
- Leaders' Questions. (3 May 2006)
Enda Kenny: Last week the House debated the sorry state of the electoral register. It is the fundamental duty of each individual to ensure they are registered on the register of electors but, in practice, this does not happen. Over the years, this duty has been carried out for local authorities by rate collectors, now revenue collectors. The situation socially and demographically has changed utterly in...
- Leaders' Questions. (3 May 2006)
Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach has given an indication of something which clearly will not happen before winter and spring. He was not responsible for this situation, but as an aside, I recall in my by-election in 1975 at a school in north Mayo that "Up Fianna Fáil" was written on the roof of the school by the local presiding officer before the polling station opened.
- Leaders' Questions. (3 May 2006)
Enda Kenny: The polling station had to be closed for some time by the late Willie O'Brien. It is currently the duty of the rates and Revenue collectors to collate information on those eligible to vote. It has never been a question of money but one of manpower and the physical ability to walk the footpaths and collect all the information. Is it the intention to employ extra people or to pay the Revenue...
