- Seanad: Order of Business. (29 Apr 2010)
Paul Coghlan: Senator Coffey made an interesting point on Anglo Irish Bank and the apparent willingness of the Minister for Finance to countenance a more rapid, orderly wind-down. What is the least expensive option for the taxpayer? How did the European Commission differ from the Government in respect of the proposals of the latter on Anglo Irish Bank? This is a key question. Will a good bank emerge...

Paul Coghlan: It is very worthwhile.
- Seanad: Order of Business. (5 May 2010)
Paul Coghlan: I strongly support the call for the debate on the Greek assistance situation. I trust the Leader will agree that, at a minimum, the Minister for Finance owes it to the House to come before this House as well as the other House.

- Seanad: Order of Business. (5 May 2010)
Paul Coghlan: In any event, it impacts on the currency which is of such vital importance to every member of the eurozone. It is important that we hear from the Minister in regard to the situation and that we hold a debate, as Senator Fitzgerald has called for. We are all aware that our tourism industry is in a very fragile state and in need of every assistance and help it can get. I refer to the volcanic...

- Seanad: Order of Business (6 May 2010)
Paul Coghlan: I second the amendment to the Order of Business proposed by Senator Buttimer. I join Senator Hannigan in calling for a debate on the tourism industry which, I am say to say, has been suffering badly. However, I welcome the initiative taken by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Deputy Hanafin, in the British market which traditionally has been our best market. There are reasons...
- Seanad: Order of Business (11 May 2010)
Paul Coghlan: I support the proposal made by Senator Frances Fitzgerald and I second the amendment to the Order of Business to have the debate on the Brussels package, which is timely and appropriate. Allied to that is the question that has been raised by Senator Twomey regarding Anglo Irish Bank. We know there were 101 questions from the Commission regarding Anglo's plans, which were submitted some time...

- Seanad: Order of Business (12 May 2010)
Paul Coghlan: I strongly agree with the remarks of Senators Fitzgerald and O'Toole about the â¬3 billion we have read about this morning and about which the Minister, Deputy Brian Lenihan, has been in contact with his colleagues. If this is not a budget - perhaps it is not - what is it? We in this House, as do those in the other House, have a clear entitlement to understand and know about the process....

Paul Coghlan: I thank the Senator.
- Seanad: Order of Business (1 Jun 2010)
Paul Coghlan: For the reasons that have been outlined, I agree with Senators who have argued that the Cathaoirleach should give Senator Callely an opportunity to make a personal statement at the earliest possible time. The wrong kind of spotlight is being put on the profession of politics and on this House. He must be given an opportunity to state where he ordinarily resides and to address the various...

Paul Coghlan: I have been there and I would recommend everyone to go there.
- Seanad: Order of Business (1 Jun 2010)
Paul Coghlan: The site's opening and closing times are far too restrictive and its season is too short. At a time when we are trying to boost the tourism industry throughout the country, we need this world heritage site to be opened from April to the end of October. That would have more in common with the proper fullness of the season.
