- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Update on Brexit Engagement: Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation (23 Oct 2019)
Imelda Munster: The Minister stated the highest number of requests for supports will come from Border counties. If that is not the case, will the Minister prioritise businesses and workers in Border counties given that they will be most affected and the first to feel any impact?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Update on Brexit Engagement: Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation (23 Oct 2019)
Imelda Munster: I am sure the Minister will agree that it is vital to examine the submissions and complaints made to the committee by the bodies that represent the people we are talking about, namely, businesses and workers. We will have a real problem if they feel the funding and advice provided is insufficient or too restrictive. It is important to address complaints and make the system more effective to...
- Industrial Development (Amendment) Bill 2019 [Seanad]: Second Stage (24 Oct 2019)
Imelda Munster: Sinn Féin supports this Bill. We support all measures that will provide support for businesses and workers whose livelihoods will be adversely affected by Brexit. As the Bill, with the exception of the two new provisions, has passed through the Houses and my colleague, Deputy Quinlivan, has addressed it, I do not propose to speak to it in detail. The only amendment to the Bill...

- Industrial Development (Amendment) Bill 2019 [Seanad]: Committee Stage (24 Oct 2019)
Imelda Munster: Nobody is disputing that the Brexit supports should be available to everybody, as of course they should be. I have pointed it out to the Minister of State - I do not know whether he understands - the extent of the concern, worry and uncertainty that businesses in the Border region face. It is palpable, as they will be hit first. That is why I put in the amendments. It is not to say that...

- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (24 Oct 2019)
Imelda Munster: In the correspondence about the contracts awarded without a competitive procurement process, Tusla stated it had consistently focused its efforts on addressing non-compliance issues and contracts utilising a risk-based approach in allocating its available procurement resources. I wonder where it did so, however, because all the evidence suggests it did not. In section 4, it explicitly...

Imelda Munster: Is it stating it has no way of monitoring non-compliance?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (24 Oct 2019)
Imelda Munster: It is not acceptable even at this stage if they have no way of monitoring it until it comes to the fore.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (24 Oct 2019)
Imelda Munster: I note too that non-compliant contracts of €5.4 million were identified in the agency in 2018. They also said these contracts represented just over 3.5% of the total expenditure which falls under the scope of procurement. I am not aware of any rule whereby 3.5% non-compliance is acceptable.
