Michael McCarthy: It is not. I am not being pedantic with the Deputy. I will let her speak because, in fairness, she is very co-operative and, to put it mildly, we owe her minutes following her outstanding co-operation one day when there were spectacular instances where there was not such co-operation. I ask her to stick to PEACE III and with the broader parameters of the budget.

Social Welfare Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (12 Dec 2012)

Michael McCarthy: We are living in an absolutely unprecedented difficult economic time. This is the second budget of five and there is not a Deputy in the House who wants to see the measures being spoken about widely being voted on this evening. We would all much prefer if that were not the case. To contextualise, the clean-up operation in this country, in economic terms, is akin to dealing with the...

Social Welfare Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (12 Dec 2012)

Michael McCarthy: We would be plunging the country into a political crisis as bad as the one in Greece, which is the line some Members opposite argued for when the crisis began. Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Business of Joint Committee (13 Dec 2012)

Michael McCarthy: The reason we are not starting at the appointed time is that there were two votes in the Chamber. I advise members of the usual advice on mobile phones. Apologies have been received from Senators Fiach Mac Conghail and Denis Landy....
