- Other Questions: Rural Transport Services (19 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: 42. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the input his Department had into to the Galway transport strategy; to provide details of any reports provided by his Department to the Galway transport unit; the remit of the consultants involved together with any reports and-or findings presented by them; the plans in place for a light rail system for County Galway; and if he will...
- Other Questions: Rural Transport Services (19 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: What input did the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport have in the Galway transport strategy; what reports, written or otherwise, are available and was light rail considered?
- Other Questions: Rural Transport Services (19 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: I thank the Minister for his reply. However, I am disappointed. This is my third follow up in relation to this matter. I will continue to follow up on it. During a meeting with the National Transport Authority, which comes under the remit of the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, a delegation, of which I was a member, was told that the NTA was preparing a report. I have tried to...
- Other Questions: Rural Transport Services (19 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: I got that reply in June and read it. The Minister is reading it out to me again. Where is the written report from the NTA that sets out for me where it found that light rail was not justified? That is my question.
- Housing Strategy: Statements (19 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: I listened to the Taoiseach tell us this morning that the local authorities had not measured up. He repeated this later using different phraseology. Let me say Galway City Council has measured up. It produced a housing report every quarter of every year in which it set out its strategy and identified the land it had zoned for residential purposes. The accompanying note stated construction...
- Housing Strategy: Statements (19 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: I have noted it and I am about to thank the Minister for recognising the gap and for the fact that there will now be a regulator. I hope a regulator with resources will be put in place much more speedily than has been the case in the charities sector.
- Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: Airport Development Projects (19 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: 82. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the discussions he has had with the Dublin Airport Authority regarding the cost of mitigation measures consequential on its decision to develop the second runway, with particular reference to reducing the impact of noise and the impact on the transport network in the area. [21982/16]
- Health (Amendment) Bill 2016 [Seanad]: Second Stage (20 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: I have no hesitation in supporting this Bill. The Minister of State said it was a technical amendment to the 2007 Act with the sole purpose of extending the transitional period but the necessity of the amendment is certainly not technical in the lives of the people affected. I and everybody else throughout the country who watched the programme on Áras Attracta were rendered speechless....
- Priority Questions: IDA Expenditure (20 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: 35. To ask the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation if she is aware that IDA Ireland incurred expenditure totalling €10.4 million on a lease, comprising €1 million for rent and associated costs for office space, for a property that was not occupied during 2015, and that €9.4 million was paid in 2015 to exit the lease; and if she will make a statement on the...
- Priority Questions: IDA Expenditure (20 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: What awareness did the Minister, Deputy Mitchell O'Connor, have of the expenditure by IDA Ireland of €10.4 million, €1 million of which was spent on rent for a property that was unoccupied and €9 million of which was spent on breaking the lease?
- Priority Questions: IDA Expenditure (20 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: I thank the Minister. It would represent a saving, but how was this allowed to happen? What was the Minister's knowledge of it? When did it come to her attention or that of the previous Minister? How could something like this be allowed to happen, where €10.4 million of taxpayers' money was spent on a property that is empty? The Minister has given me the background to the case,...
- Priority Questions: IDA Expenditure (20 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: At this point, words fail me. In addition to this waste of money, consultants were paid more taxpayers' money. When did the Minister become aware of the situation? What did she learn and how will this situation be avoided in the future?

- Other Questions: UK Referendum on EU Membership (20 Jul 2016)
Catherine Connolly: Tá mé ag brath ar an gclog. Is é sin an fáth gur bhris mé isteach ar an Teachta. Níl a fhios agam an raibh botún déanta. Gabh mo leithscéal arís.
