- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Is it within our remit to broaden that somewhat? The various CIE companies receive almost €300 million between them. Their accounts are audited separately. Is there any way for anyone to trace whether the money these companies receive from the Exchequer goes to the places to which it is directed? Does the Comptroller and Auditor General do this?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: I know. The money comes from this Department.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: When it leaves the Department, it goes to CIE and is lost somewhere in the mess there. I am not sure the auditors regard it as their duty to see that it goes to the right place. Is there any way we can include the subsidy which is getting bigger rather than smaller in our remit to ensure it is directed and spent as the State wishes it to be spent?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Is there a trail? That is not being done, is it?

- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Yes.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: That is alarming. When Mr. McCarthy says "it is a little more difficult", does he mean it cannot be done?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: It is just not done.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)

- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Would that be the case with regard to Iarnród Éireann also?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Will Mr. McCarthy come back to the committee on that issue?
- Leaders' Questions (9 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: When I grow a beard, the Ceann Comhairle will be entitled to mistake me for Deputy Gerry Adams, otherwise there is not much of a similarity. Despite the IMF's reservations, the austerity economic policies continue throughout Europe. Nowhere was this more apparent than in Luxembourg yesterday when the ECOFIN Ministers met. What happened was something of a triumph for Europe, in that the...
- Leaders' Questions (9 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: I am glad the Taoiseach mentioned the heads of government. Obviously, Angela Merkel is the most powerful person in Europe. I presume that if the Taoiseach were persuasive with her, she could give us a deal on legacy issues at the drop of a hat. Can the Taoiseach tell the House how often he is in touch with the German Chancellor?
- Leaders' Questions (9 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: Has he asked Angela Merkel for her assistance on this matter? We had the President of the European Parliament here for a piece of theatre last week, but would the Taoiseach consider asking Angela Merkel to join him as his guest at the football match on Friday?

- Fiscal Responsibility Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (11 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: I concur with much of the latter part of Deputy Jerry Buttimer's contribution. I am not trying to be mischievous in welcoming comments such as those made by the Deputy, especially when they come from the Government benches. When the Deputy addresses the issue of middle Ireland, he is reflecting a growing body of opinion that the so-called coping classes, those who are somehow managing to...

Shane Ross: The Minister should stick to writing novels and love stories.
- Public Accounts Committee: Public Service Reform Plan: Discussion (11 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: That was not an accident.

- Leaders' Questions (17 Oct 2012)
Shane Ross: The problem for the Government is that the bankers are being included as part of the solution. They should no longer be regarded as such, as stated by Ms Muldoon yesterday. She said the bankers are in denial such that they deny there is any problem at all. Like Mr. Micawber in David Copperfield, they are looking for something to turn up. Ms Muldoon was saying the banks are waiting and...
