There are many stakeholders involved, with the lives of many individuals and those of...
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Mother and Baby Homes Inquiries (4 May 2022)
Victor Boyhan: I thank the Minister for that informative response. I will comment on three elements. Regarding the eligibility of those applicants who are overseas and outside the State, it is likely that many of them may be living in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and places like that. It is critically important that this message regarding eligibility is disseminated and that to do so we tap...

It is a great day for both our Houses that the Cathaoirleach and the Ceann Comhairle’s counterparts in Ukraine are extending an invitation to them. I wish them a safe journey. I hope...

- Seanad: Merchant Shipping (Investigation of Marine Casualties) (Amendment) Bill 2021: Report and Final Stages (5 May 2022)
Victor Boyhan: I thank the Minister and Senators for their contributions. I hear what the Minister says. The easy option is not to reject the Minister's non-acceptance of the amendment and to call a vote, but that is politics. We have enough of that going on here. Let us use this House in a constructive way. The key words in the Minister's statement were that the proposed amendment "pre-empts further...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Carbon and Energy within the Construction Industry: Discussion (Resumed) (3 May 2022)
Victor Boyhan: I am conscious of the questions but I think what Ms Phelan told us today regarding builders and construction is alarming. Alarm bells must now be ringing for the committee. Ms Phelan is an expert in this area. She is at the coalface of all this. She has raised a very serious concern with us and it is certainly something we need to revisit. I thank her for her very honest assessment. I...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Carbon and Energy within the Construction Industry: Discussion (Resumed) (3 May 2022)
Victor Boyhan: I want to revisit what Ms Phelan said about the biggest impediment to compliance, the issues about building regulations requirements and the serious lack of trained competent builders and tradespeople in the construction sector. I had run out of time on this point and I am returning to it now that I have another seven minutes. Ms Phelan might touch on more of those issues. She might share...
