Commission of Investigation (Handling of Historical Child Sexual Abuse in Day and Boarding Schools) Order 2025: Motion (15 Jul 2025)

Réada Cronin: I welcome the establishment of a commission of investigation into historical sexual abuse in schools. I am thinking first and foremost of the survivors, some of whom are here in the Public Gallery today, and those who were abused as children in the very places they should have been safe, namely, our schools and our State institutions. This has been a long time coming. The findings of...

Committee on Infrastructure and National Development Plan Delivery: Judicial Review and Appeals Process: Engagement with Courts Service (9 Jul 2025)

Réada Cronin: I thank the Cathaoirleach. I had to leave for a short while but I caught up on MS Teams. Going back to Part 9 of the 2024 Act, the changed rules on judicial reviews and the removal of the need to apply for leave, it is true that Ireland ranks very low in terms of our spending on the judicial system by the State. I do not mean what they earn. Ms Denning said we need to see the new laws and...

Committee on Infrastructure and National Development Plan Delivery: Judicial Review and Appeals Process: Engagement with Courts Service (9 Jul 2025)

Réada Cronin: The extent of changes to the rules on judicial reviews in Part 9 of the Planning and Development Act 2024 saw it go from taking up five pages in the 2000 Act to 25 pages in the 2024 Act. That is a fivefold increase so it is bound to result in more cases.

Committee on Infrastructure and National Development Plan Delivery: Judicial Review and Appeals Process: Engagement with Courts Service (9 Jul 2025)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Climate Change Targets 2026-2030: Electricity Sector (16 Jul 2025)

Réada Cronin: I have a question for Wind Energy Ireland first. It has identified roughly 1,300 sq. km on which new wind farms could be built. Where precisely are they? With the CRU's draft PR6 decision that said households and SMEs will see an increase in network charges while large energy users like data centres will see a reduction of up to 18% in prices, could it explain to us - to the public, really...

Réada Cronin: Has public consultation started?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Climate Change Targets 2026-2030: Electricity Sector (16 Jul 2025)

Réada Cronin: In his statement, Mr. Tarrant outlines that 6,474 MW of renewable energy has been connected to the grid. Does he know approximately what percentage of that is going towards data centres?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Climate Change Targets 2026-2030: Electricity Sector (16 Jul 2025)

Réada Cronin: I have a very quick question. Four or five years ago we were looking at the possibility of rolling blackouts. I have not heard as much talk about that lately. Is the grid in a stronger place at the moment?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy: Climate Change Targets 2026-2030: Electricity Sector (16 Jul 2025)

Réada Cronin: I want to go back to the question I asked earlier on large energy users. Given that ordinary consumers and small and medium businesses face an increase of 21% in the price of electricity and data centres are getting reduction, and when we take into account the 29% of families and households experiencing energy poverty, I want to look at the sustainability of this situation. Is Ireland...

Energy Costs: Motion [Private Members] (23 Sep 2025)

Réada Cronin: In the past few weeks, we have all heard the crushing news that electricity providers are increasing prices by significant amounts this year, but there has been no intervention by the Government to protect those forced to pay the highest prices in Europe. SSE Airtricity will increase bills by 9.5%, Energia by as much as 12% and Bord Gáis by a whopping 13.5%. Hundreds of thousands of...

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (25 Sep 2025)

Réada Cronin: I raise the case of Rebecca from Kildare. Twelve years ago following treatment for cervical cancer, Rebecca experienced early medical menopause. Women with cancer in remission are unable to use traditional hormone replacement therapy, HRT, but thankfully, a new drug for cancer survivors by the name of Veozah has been developed. This drug would be a game-changer for young women like...
