Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (13 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: I am sure the Tánaiste will agree with me that it would be hypocrisy for the Government to engage in special pleading for Irish people in America - pleading in Congress and to the United States President - while doing little to address exactly the same concerns of migrants to this State whose status is irregular. The notion that we cannot deal with that ourselves is not right. Other...

Brendan Howlin: It is a process of regularisation.

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (13 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: In the past, I advised the establishment of a retired pensioners' alliance that would feed into public sector pay talks. This would bring together retired pensioners from throughout the Civil Service and public service. When public sector pay talks and negotiations take place there is no formal input by retired pensioners. In fact, trade unions do not normally represent them. Anomalies...

Written Answers — Department of Education and Skills: School Accommodation Provision (13 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: 147. Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (26 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: In February, the Minister for Finance warned that Brexit could cost at least 40,000 jobs. This week, the Department of Finance and the ESRI have warned that a disorderly Brexit could cost this country 80,000 jobs. Some of these job losses would be due to lower economic growth and lower job creation. There is also an obvious real risk to tens of thousands of current jobs. What is worse,...

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (26 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: Endless?

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (26 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: We know the damage the economic fire of Brexit will cause. I am asking the Taoiseach to outline specifically the fire protections he will put in place to mitigate that damage. The Taoiseach has said that €200 million for sanctioned state aid is not the ceiling of it. Precisely how much to date has been approved by the EU for state aid in the event of a hard Brexit? When I asked the...

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (26 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: How much?

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: I have a difficulty with the proposal for Thursday's business, which the Labour Party representative on the Business Committee, Deputy Brendan Ryan, raised at the most recent meeting. It is proposed to take all Stages of the Sea-Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2017 in three hours on Thursday. This Bill was introduced two years ago and was put on hold at that stage. The Bill is currently still...

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Mar 2019)

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: We need debating time.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: My point is that it will not happen by this Friday.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: It is no longer the date of Brexit. I ask again that we take Second Stage this Thursday and take Committee Stage and Report Stage next week when we have had time to reflect further on it.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Mar 2019)

Brendan Howlin: I have made a proposition to the House: that we take Second Stage this Thursday and allow the follow through next week. There is no imperative because Brexit will not happen on Friday, which is why the Friday date was originally put in.
