Waste Management: Motion (Resumed). (21 Jun 2006)

Trevor Sargent: Ba mhaith liom mo bhuíochas a ghabháil le gach duine a labhair sa díospóireacht, go mórmhór na daoine a thug tacaíocht don rún ón gComhaontas Glas, le Fine Gael, Páirtí an Lucht Oibre, Sinn Féin agus leis na Teachtaí Neamhspleácha. When we first drafted this motion, it was in response to the shameful growing international waste levels which Forfás highlighted. However, it seems...

Waste Management: Motion (Resumed). (21 Jun 2006)

Trevor Sargent: The interesting point is that the Minister, Deputy McDowell, now has a difficult decision to make because he knows from a statement made by the Minister, Deputy Roche, on a radio programme this morning that the Poolbeg incinerator plan is Government policy. I wonder if the Minister is elsewhere at the moment considering his resignation, as that would be the only logical thing for him to do....

Interdepartmental Committees. (27 Jun 2006)

Trevor Sargent: There is no call for that from the Minister, Deputy Lenihan.

Interdepartmental Committees. (27 Jun 2006)

Trevor Sargent: Given the high level of infrastructural deficit areas not referred to by the Taoiseach, why did no meeting take place in June? For example, in terms of waste management, three quarters of recyclables go abroad and there is a lack of producer responsibility. Does it occur to the Taoiseach, in speaking of the issues on the agenda, that we will need probably a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions over...

Trevor Sargent: I asked about reducing CO2 emissions, not about renewable energy.

Order of Business. (27 Jun 2006)

Trevor Sargent: My point is similar. The sum of money entailed and the issue itself requires that it come back to the House. I understood there was an agreement to that effect and would like that to be clarified before we agree to the proposal on the Order of Business.

Order of Business. (27 Jun 2006)

Trevor Sargent: Between now and Thursday week, a limited number of days remain in which to pass several Bills. I understand one Bill that the Minister for Social and Family Affairs wishes to have passed has not been published. Can the Taoiseach elaborate on what is being discussed in citizens' information centres around the country? The Comhairle Bill was published. I was informed that this Bill was a dead duck.

Order of Business. (27 Jun 2006)

Trevor Sargent: I understand that the Minister wishes to see the citizens information Bill passed before Thursday week. Can the Taoiseach tell us whether that is his plan or that of the Government or the Chief Whip?
