- Public Accounts Committee: Vote Management and Budgetary Situation in 2012: Discussion with Department of Health and HSE (9 Oct 2012)
Seán Fleming: I address my comment to him as chairman of the HSE, the largest publicly-funded body in the State. It is unacceptable for him, as chairman, to come here today and say that he will not resume the discussion on the matters that we discussed here, at length, with the HSE's chief executive on Thursday, 28 June. Mr. O'Brien has done the HSE a gross disservice today by what he has told the...

- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Public Sector Staff Issues (10 Oct 2012)
Seán Fleming: I thank the Minister for at least coming into the House and giving us some information. As recently as lunchtime, I checked the Department's website for any statement on this from him and I could find no statement to date. The only record I can find anywhere is something that was published on RTE on 2 October and, obviously, somebody had a word in somebody's ear. There was no press...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Public Sector Staff Issues (10 Oct 2012)
Seán Fleming: I wish to put on record that we discussed this targeted redundancy package in this House last June or July, before the summer recess. Some people were surprised by the announcement but if they had been listening to us in the Chamber they would not have been surprised. The matter was discussed here and flagged months ago. I ask the Minister to confirm that this will be a Government...

Seán Fleming: In terms of what is on offer and the offer itself, will that be a direct Government decision or will it be taken in consultation with the public sector committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions? Will the redundancy scheme be like the early retirement scheme, namely, a Government announcement to be managed afterwards?

- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Job Creation Issues (10 Oct 2012)
Seán Fleming: My question specifically asked how many jobs would be created by the end of 2012 and 2013, respectively, but the Minister did not give an answer. Therefore, I can only assume the answer is zero.
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Job Creation Issues (10 Oct 2012)
Seán Fleming: The Minister said that after six or seven years some 13,000 might be involved in the programme. He cut capital expenditure this year by €750 million and will cut it by €550 million next year. This amounts to almost half of the value of the stimulus package. Therefore, it does not even go half way towards meeting the cuts announced for this year and proposed for next year....
