- Death of Former Member: Expressions of Sympathy. (19 Apr 2005)
Billy Timmins: I have a vague memory of the late Michael O'Higgins in my own home, standing in front of a fire. He wore a light beige Crombie and had a smile that was very embracing and friendly to a young person. He served in Wicklow from 1961 to 1969, and I am reliably informed that he was the first politician to hold clinics in the county. I am unsure whether we should thank him for that, but he...
- Disability Bill 2004: Second Stage (Resumed). (19 Apr 2005)
Billy Timmins: I am delighted to speak on this important Bill, which has been on Second Stage since November 2004. The Fine Gael Party considered opposing the Second Stage reading of the Bill, but it was decided that...
- Social and Affordable Housing: Motion. (19 Apr 2005)
Billy Timmins: I was enjoying Deputy Hayes's animated contribution. I proposed the abolition of the first-time buyer's grant during previous debates in the House. I suggested that it would be appropriate in the context of a front-loaded mortgage system, at a time when most first-time buyers were buying second-hand homes. Such people were not benefiting from the grant. If the grant had been index-linked at...

- Economic Competitiveness. (20 Apr 2005)
Billy Timmins: The lack of competitiveness mentioned by my colleague, in addition to the failure of a product to evolve, has had a devastating effect on Wicklow in the past couple of weeks. The Minister says we are in top place in Europe but that is little consolation when jobs can be moved to other countries. A total of 140 jobs at AO Smith Corporation in Bray were lost last week while 94 jobs will be lost...

- Garda Síochána Bill 2004 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed). (20 Apr 2005)
Billy Timmins: Whether one breaks the law by one mile or 50 miles, one deserves the punishment that goes with the crime.
