Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(30 Nov 2022)

Gino Kenny: That is absolutely incredible.

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(30 Nov 2022)

Gino Kenny: What is pushing this? Why is it going up incrementally by that amount? It is an amazing amount of money for negligence. I am aware things happen in the health service but this is an incredible figure.

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(30 Nov 2022)

Gino Kenny: Okay.

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(30 Nov 2022)

Gino Kenny: On clinical negligence, one could draw from it that people are either taking more litigation against the health service or there is an issue with the service. The figures are quite unbelievable. Is it the situation that doctors and medical professionals are under such pressure in respect of resources that they are making more mistakes? We understand mistakes happen in health services but...

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (6 Dec 2022)

Gino Kenny: The European Commission has called for a different approach to breast cancer detection. A key recommendation is to extend breast cancer screening to include women between the ages of 45 and 74. In Ireland the screening process for women is between the ages of 50 and 69. A total of 23% of all women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer are between the ages of 20 and 50. Will the...

Gambling Regulation Bill 2022: Second Stage (6 Dec 2022)

Gino Kenny: I welcome this legislation. It is long overdue. It is a lengthy Bill at more than 95 pages. I tried to read it but was limited in what I could take in. It is welcome that the Government is regulating an industry that has been largely out of control. Gambling is a big business and big business is gambling. It is worth an enormous amount, not only in Ireland but around the world, and is...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: An Garda Síochána (6 Dec 2022)

Gino Kenny: 7. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality when GSOC will publish its investigation report into the killing of a person (details supplied) by gardaí; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [60573/22]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: An Garda Síochána (6 Dec 2022)

Gino Kenny: It is almost two years since the death of George Nkencho in Clonee. George's family have been very patient regarding the investigation into his death, but they want to see the GSOC report as soon as possible. Can the Minister shed light on when the report will be published?

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: An Garda Síochána (6 Dec 2022)

Gino Kenny: The family had this a year ago. They were told that the report would be finalised this time last year, but another year has passed. There were media reports that a draft investigation had been submitted to the commissioners but that report was in the media number of months ago. Where is it? Has the report of the internal draft investigation been submitted? Has the Minister seen it? That...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: An Garda Síochána (6 Dec 2022)

Gino Kenny: The circumstances surrounding the death of George Nkencho are extremely troubling, to say the least. George cannot be brought back, but the family want to know what the circumstances were that led to his death and that it will not happen to another family. That is the most important thing. The family want truth and justice. They want somebody to tell them this could have been prevented if...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Cancer Research (7 Dec 2022)

Gino Kenny: I thank the Leas-Cheann Comhairle for taking this important matter. The European Commission recently published a new study on breast cancer screening across the European Union. One of its recommendations was to extend breast cancer screening to include women from the ages of 45 to 74. As the Minister of State knows, in Ireland, the screening process begins at 50 and ends at 69. The...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Cancer Research (7 Dec 2022)

Gino Kenny: That sounds quite positive. This will take time and more resources. I was on the health committee where experts were brought in to talk about the pros and cons of extending the screening process. The case was quite compelling. It makes it less evasive. There is also an issue of women seeking early diagnosis. I know it can be lengthy and can run into years. For any cancer, early...

Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: Bus Services (7 Dec 2022)

Gino Kenny: 12. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the position of an applicant for the position of a bus driver with Bus Éireann, Dublin Bus or a company (details supplied) in cases in which such an applicant has failed a medical test for banned or prescription drugs in their system; if such persons can reapply for the position at a future date; if not, if they are effectively...

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (8 Dec 2022)

Gino Kenny: A constituent has contacted me about an unlicensed drug called Cariban, which is used to treat hyperemesis. Deputy Richmond raised this matter with the Minister of State yesterday. The situation with this drug is slightly unclear. This condition, as the Tánaiste will be aware, causes extreme vomiting in pregnancy and is dangerous for both the baby and the mother. In this year's...

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(30 Nov 2022)

Gino Kenny: This is obviously a great deal of money which could be better spent elsewhere in the health service.

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(30 Nov 2022)

Gino Kenny: The Minister said 126,000 people have been paid the pandemic recognition payment. How much of the €189 million has been spent?

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(30 Nov 2022)

Gino Kenny: So there is €60 million left. Does the Minister know what percentage of section 39 bodies and those who are working in the private sector still have not received the pandemic payment?

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(30 Nov 2022)

Gino Kenny: The Minister can understand why people who were working at the height of the pandemic in the private sector or in nursing homes could be very peed off in respect of this. Despite the goodwill, which was welcomed last January, these people have still not been paid.

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(30 Nov 2022)

Gino Kenny: It is a very good thing, but it is just the way it was delivered. We all agree with it, but people not receiving this payment for a period of up to a year takes the goodwill out of it.

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(30 Nov 2022)

Gino Kenny: Hopefully, it is-----
