- Joint Committee On Children, Equality, Disability, Integration And Youth: Disability Services: Discussion (31 Jan 2023)
Lynn Ruane: It is in relation to young people entering into adulthood who want to go on to third level or further education. Trinity has a specific programme for people with Down's syndrome. I wonder is there much access in other places in the country, such as west Cork, that do that style of college education for people with Down's syndrome.

- Joint Committee On Children, Equality, Disability, Integration And Youth: Disability Services: Discussion (31 Jan 2023)
Lynn Ruane: The expense is not taken into account when it comes to the threshold. This is something I have been looking at in relation to my child maintenance Bill when people are applying for child maintenance and there has been a breakdown in the family relationship. Child maintenance and those supports should look different if one has a child who needs different financial support in relation to, as...

Lynn Ruane: Imagine investing that recruitment money in social care workers who have maybe done Further Education and Training Awards Council, FETAC, level 5 and level 6 courses in community work. Imagine investing in those young people already living in communities to actually work in that area. It would be much better spent in the long run.
- Joint Committee On Children, Equality, Disability, Integration And Youth: Disability Services: Discussion (31 Jan 2023)
Lynn Ruane: I thank the witnesses and apologise for not being here for the contributions at the beginning. I am splitting my time between this and another committee I am on which sits at the exact same time, unfortunately. I have read the submissions and opening statements. Much of my work over the years has been focused on neurodivergence and autism so my insights and understanding of the...

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (14 Feb 2023)
Lynn Ruane: Today I welcome the fact that the memorandum for a citizens' assembly on drugs went to Cabinet this morning. Hopefully, over the next few weeks we will get to see what that looks like. Obviously we do not know what the terms of reference are or who will be the chairperson but given that this time last year I could barely bring myself to come into this Chamber because I felt that all of the...
- Seanad: Domestic Violence (Amendment) Bill 2023: Second Stage (15 Feb 2023)
Lynn Ruane: I thank the Green Party for this legislation. Issues around when a case gets to the court system, are another part of the area of coercive control that we need to address. I was in the Seanad Chamber when coercive control was added to the legislation. It was not easy at the time. A huge amount of work had to happen in the background.
- Seanad: Domestic Violence (Amendment) Bill 2023: Second Stage (15 Feb 2023)
Lynn Ruane: At the time Fine Gael did not see how it could work. It was worried about the complexities of it. Senators and advocacy bodies had to keep fighting to ensure coercive control was included. It has been shown and we now understand why it is so necessary for it to be in the legislation. I am sorry I missed people's opening statements. I have lots of questions going in different directions so I will try to keep the ones that are similar together. One of them relates to direct provision. With the White...
