- Seanad: Criminal Justice (Amendment) Bill 2009: Committee and Remaining Stages (14 Jul 2009)
Jerry Buttimer: I am just giving a preamble. Perhaps the Minister might include in the Bill reference to fights in the Seanad. The broad thrust of the Bill is to be welcomed and there is an important need for it. Anyone who watched Miriam O'Callaghan's programme on Saturday night would have been struck by Mr. Collins and the issue of gangland crime. I am concerned that the Minister is pinning down rank...
- Seanad: Criminal Justice (Amendment) Bill 2009: Committee and Remaining Stages (14 Jul 2009)
Jerry Buttimer: I am concerned that the Minister is putting too much emphasis on the local garda who is at the front line of fighting crime and who is very good at gathering intelligence. Why did the Minister not accept Senator Regan's amendment?

- Seanad: Health Services (14 Jul 2009)
Jerry Buttimer: I thank the Leas-Chathaoirleach for allowing me to re-table this matter and the Minister for attending. The issues of drugs and drug treatment have presented challenges for many communities. I am highlighting the drugs issue on the Adjournment in light of the plans of the Minister of State, Deputy Curran, the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Deputy à CuÃv, the HSE and...
- Seanad: Health Services (14 Jul 2009)
Jerry Buttimer: I thank the Minister for his reply, although he did not mention the implementation of detox beds in Cork. I am amused by the last section of the reply. While it is not the Minister's Department, perhaps he will tell the Minister for Health and Children, Deputy Harney, and the Minister of State, Deputy Curran, that they should visit Cork to see our problems.

- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Jul 2009)
Jerry Buttimer: It is relevant.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Jul 2009)
Jerry Buttimer: I have asked him two questions already. Given that we have had no debate on the Cork docklands area, unemployment is heading towards 15% and yet again there has been a guillotine on the Ryan report, will the Leader explain why the House is going into recess today? Why can we not sit until the end of July? My final question for the Leader is about a matter of grave urgency. From 24 July,...
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Jul 2009)
Jerry Buttimer: From 24 July a pensioner cannot go to the post office with his or her pension book and pensions will be paid into bank or post office accounts, which will result in serious emotional and psychological difficulties for many elderly people. I ask the Leader to communicate to the Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Deputy Hanafin, as a matter of extreme urgency, that she should desist in...
