Public Accounts Committee: RTÉ Commercial Arrangements: Mr. Ryan Tubridy and Mr. Noel Kelly (11 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: We have been told that only one person had an overview of all of this.

Public Accounts Committee: RTÉ Commercial Arrangements: Mr. Ryan Tubridy and Mr. Noel Kelly (11 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Sorry, I have very little time.

Public Accounts Committee: RTÉ Commercial Arrangements: Mr. Ryan Tubridy and Mr. Noel Kelly (11 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Mr. Kelly does not operate for 1,800 people.

Public Accounts Committee: RTÉ Commercial Arrangements: Mr. Ryan Tubridy and Mr. Noel Kelly (11 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Mr. Kelly is an agent for a small number of people. I refer to the Breda O'Keeffe statement last week. Ms O'Keeffe stated, "When I left in March 2020, an RTÉ guarantee on the proposed Renault agreement was not on offer, as far as I was aware." Ms O'Keeffe was linking in the Renault agreement with the salary. One can see why this keeps on coming back to the same thing. Mr. Kelly...

Public Accounts Committee: RTÉ Commercial Arrangements: Mr. Ryan Tubridy and Mr. Noel Kelly (11 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Given all Mr. Tubridy has listened to over the past few weeks, he says he wants to go back and work on the radio. Looking at it from his perspective, that appears to come across as strange given all the issues that he has documented in his booklet and the opening statement.

Public Accounts Committee: RTÉ Commercial Arrangements: Mr. Ryan Tubridy and Mr. Noel Kelly (11 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Wanting to go back to an organisation that Mr. Tubridy obviously feels has badly damaged him.

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Crime Prevention (11 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: 51. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the steps she is taking in conjunction with her ministerial colleagues to address ongoing public safety deterioration in Dublin city centre; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [34383/23]

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Chair, have we received apologies from those who are not here?

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Do we have a letter from Ms Breda O'Keeffe?

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: They are key witnesses because they put items on the record here that were plainly not true. The record needs to be corrected. It is significant.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: The witnesses are very welcome. I want to clarifying something again. Mr. Lynch said in his opening statement: “We believe that the substantive contract would not have been signed without the additional commercial agreement or the underwriting.” A sum of €75,000 of that was with Renault with convoluted methods and the other two were direct payments to RTÉ. Does...

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Then, we can ourselves calculate what the reduction was.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Okay. I just want to get that on the record. The second thing relates to Mr. Lynch. Regarding the rules for RTÉ’s scheme for redundancy etc., he would have been on the executive board. The executive board reviewed all of those-----

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: -----exit packages. He would have been involved with Breda O’Keeffe’s exit package. My understanding of the word “redundancy” is that the job is redundant rather than the person being redundant. We know that Mr. Collins is in the position that Breda O’Keeffe had been in. We therefore know that the job was not made redundant. Was this an early retirement?

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: I understand that quite a lot of staff were refused-----

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: -----that they had applied and they were refused because it was oversubscribed.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: I must say that I am not satisfied. We are talking about a job being made redundant here-----

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Very quickly.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Right. Okay. I will stop Mr. Lynch there, because there are lots of things I want to ask about. Breda O’Keeffe sent in her apologies today. In her statement she said “I have nothing further to add to that statement with respect to the matters addressed therein”. That was her statement on 5 July. Since 5 July, Ryan Tubridy and Noel Kelly were before the committee....

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): RTÉ (13 Jul 2023)

Catherine Murphy: Was it what ended up being finally agreed to?
