- Seanad: Registration of Wills Bill 2006: Committee and Remaining Stages (13 Dec 2006)
Terry Leyden: I do so on the basis that this is setting an historic precedent. I concur with Senator Tuffy's comments about the Succession Act, introduced by the late Mr. Brian Lenihan Sn. It was the most innovative succession Act anywhere in the world. Up to that time, spouses were often thrown out of their houses which were left to children or strangers. When a husband died, the widow had no rights....

- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Dec 2006)
Terry Leyden: I welcome this morning's announcement by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Deputy Roche, that the retirement gratuity and expenses available to elected councillors will be improved. I will continue to pursue proposals to introduce a pension for councillors because they are entitled to one. I am not prepared to walk away from this issue, even if it is unpopular...
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Dec 2006)
Terry Leyden: I accept that. The VHI should devise a scheme to enable people to contribute funds for their retirement. The proposal by the Minister for Health and Children to recoup a percentage of a nursing home resident's moneys following his or her death may be unconstitutional. Article 43.1.2° of the Constitution states: "The State accordingly guarantees to pass no law attempting to abolish the...
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Dec 2006)
Terry Leyden: I recommend that the Government hold a referendum on its proposal on the same day as a referendum is held on children's rights. The matter should be put to the people to allow them to decide whether it is appropriate to take a percentage of a person's property to pay the cost of his or her stay in a retirement home.

- Seanad: Order of Business. (31 Jan 2007)
Terry Leyden: In my view the House was slighted by the journalists on "Morning Ireland". They should know that this is an equal Chamber and the second Chamber of the Oireachtas. RTE broadcasters should be aware we are returning today and that the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill 2006 is on the Order Paper for today. This House is given excellent coverage by "Oireachtas Report", by Jimmy Walsh of The Irish...
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Feb 2007)
Terry Leyden: I support the proposal by Senators Brian Hayes and McCarthy. MRSA is a major threat. We dealt with foot and mouth disease and prevented it from spreading throughout Ireland but we cannot solve the MRSA problem. Senator McCarthy is correct in this regard. I call on the Minister to make a statement to the House on this issue. People are terrified to go into hospital because they go in with...
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Feb 2007)
Terry Leyden: It was more successful than Fine Gael's rip-off Ireland campaign, which is defunct.
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Feb 2007)

- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Feb 2007)
Terry Leyden: I appreciate that.
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Feb 2007)
Terry Leyden: The HSE and the Garda SÃochána are paying 36 cent per litre more for petrol in a station in Dublin than they would a few miles away on the other side of the city. This is a rip-off of the HSE and the Garda SÃochána.
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Feb 2007)
Terry Leyden: Niamh Horan of the Sunday Independent raised the issue last Sunday, the 4 February, and I commend her for so doing. I recommend that Fine Gael reactivate its rip off Ireland campaign again.
