Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Funding Granted by Sport Ireland to the Football Association of Ireland and Related Matters: Discussion (3 Apr 2019)

Imelda Munster: It is about good governance and adhering to the terms and conditions of State grant approvals. It is from this aspect that I ask. Other committee members have asked about sanctions. I was going to ask what specific sanction Sport Ireland will impose. It was stated earlier that it will be a matter for the board to decide and that those who need the money are the ones who risk being...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Funding Granted by Sport Ireland to the Football Association of Ireland and Related Matters: Discussion (3 Apr 2019)

Imelda Munster: I take it that an issue of this nature has not arisen with the GAA or IRFU. Why do the witnesses think the FAI has this problem? The FAI has stated it was a bridging loan. Do the witnesses find it credible that an organisation such as the FAI would be in such a dire financial situation that it would have to resort to getting a loan of €100,000 from its CEO's personal bank account?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Funding Granted by Sport Ireland to the Football Association of Ireland and Related Matters: Discussion (3 Apr 2019)

Imelda Munster: Given the recent decisions taken by the FAI board and given the facts that, as Mr. Treacy has touched on, it did not inform Sport Ireland that it was in financial difficulties, this was not accounted for in its accounts, the board changed the rules to allow long-serving members to remainin situfor a further four years despite many of them having exceeded the recommended term under the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Engagement with the Football Association of Ireland (10 Apr 2019)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Engagement with the Football Association of Ireland (10 Apr 2019)

Imelda Munster: Ms Walshe's and Mr. Conway's signatures were to confirm that the accounts had been signed off, etc. Would it be fair to say that all of the board as a corporate body signed off on the accounts? I think it would be fair to say that the board as a collective signed off on the accounts for that year.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Engagement with the Football Association of Ireland (10 Apr 2019)

Imelda Munster: As a board, it was legally accountable for these accounts. Is that correct?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Engagement with the Football Association of Ireland (10 Apr 2019)

Imelda Munster: I wonder because it appears that the fact is that these accounts were signed off on but they are not a true and accurate account, as has come to pass, because of the omission of the €100,000 loan. Is Mr. Conway confident that the board is not in breach of Part 6 of the Companies Act 2014? Is it a case for the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement? I read that the board has...
