Rose Conway Walsh: I raise the issue again of the Versatis patches. The Cathaoirleach will know I have raised this issue many times over the past months.I recognise that there has been something of a rowing back on this matter and that some adjustments have been made. While I welcome those adjustments, there are still thousands of people in chronic pain who really need Versatis patches. I want to give the...
- Seanad: Civil Liability (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill 2018: Second Stage (4 Jul 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: The Civil Liability (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill is necessary legislation. People who have been deeply impacted by the recent scandals, such as with CervicalCheck, are asking for it now. Up to the time that Vicky Phelan and Emma Mhic Mhathúna spoke out to tell their tragic stories, very many people were under the impression that they would be told if something went wrong or mistakes were...

Hospital Services: Discussion (4 Jul 2018) Rose Conway Walsh: I thank the witnesses for their presentations. I have a few questions. The first concerns University Hospital Galway and the spinal unit there. I will read the witnesses a line of correspondence from a senior consultant there: "As you know, our ability to access major elective spinal surgery in the University Hospital has virtually come to a halt due to the lack of resource allocation."...

Hospital Services: Discussion (4 Jul 2018) Rose Conway Walsh: What I am trying to get at is the figures that were there when many beds were purposefully closed down. We always refer to our own cases. Half of the 20 beds in Belmullet District Hospital were closed down due to the wisdom of someone within the HSE and what was the Fianna Fáil Government at the time, even though we stated it would be a major mistake. Now there are people in Mayo...

- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Medicinal Products Regulation (5 Jul 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: I thank the Minister of State for coming into the House to hear this Commencement matter on the impact of prescribing sodium valproate, or Epilim, which is a drug licensed in Ireland for the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder. The teratogenic effects of valproate, as the Minister of State will be aware, were first reported in the 1980s and have been widely accepted since the...

Rose Conway Walsh: I welcome Ms Karen Keely, chairperson of the Organisation for Anticonvulsant Syndrome, Ms Valerie Brenann, Ms Danielle Delaney, Ms Beverley Dunne and others to the Gallery. I thank them for all the work they have done on that. The money is not there. The letter has not been sent out to the GPs. The Minister of State has not answered why that letter was not sent out. Medication is still...
- Seanad: Order of Business (5 Jul 2018)
Rose Conway Walsh: I wish to raise the issue of pension changes today, which were meant to address the anomalies in the 2012 legislation. I have been contacted by many people, mostly women, who are unable to receive their entire pension entitlements due to the 2012 changes. Sinn Féin has long called for the reform of the way the contributory pension is calculated but we do not want to see bad legislation...

Rose Conway Walsh: Ms McDonagh has said she wants to ensure the digital service is combined with a physical presence and a personal touch in branches and "increasing our full-service branches by more than 160%." There was a time when Bank of Ireland had full service which was cut back such that customers were only able to make certain transactions on certain days and so on. Is this a reversal of that policy?

Rose Conway Walsh: Does Ms McDonagh agree that the policy of customers' not being able to speak to a human being in branches but being given access to machines and told to come back the following day or two days later to carry out their transaction was wrong?
