Seanad: Order of Business. (22 Feb 2006)

Brendan Ryan: I ask for a debate on human rights because there seem to be great sensitivities about the matter. I am reputedly anti-American. Societal discrimination against immigrants and ethnic minorities continues to be a growing problem.

Seanad: Order of Business. (22 Feb 2006)

Brendan Ryan: I will finish soon but I want to make the point. The report goes on to state "A distinct ethnic group faces societal discrimination". Who am I talking about?

Seanad: Order of Business. (22 Feb 2006)

Brendan Ryan: It is from the US State Department's report on human rights in Ireland. If our friends in the US are entitled to write that about us, and they are, where did the notion arise that we cannot scrutinise them?

Seanad: Order of Business. (22 Feb 2006)

Brendan Ryan: I support Senator Brian Hayes because this is an extraordinary position. I appeal to the Members on the Government side to rethink. Seanad: Local Authority Services: Motion. (22 Feb 2006)

Brendan Ryan: On a point of order, is it in order for the Minister to refer to a Member as being unfit to serve given that parliamentary party colleagues of the Minister have displayed extraordinarily flexible memories about donations of large sums of money to assist decision making on planning? Seanad: Local Authority Services: Motion. (22 Feb 2006)

Seanad: Local Authority Services: Motion. (22 Feb 2006)

Brendan Ryan: He took the money and sent it back so he could have a record because they could perjure themselves in the tribunal and blacken his name.

Seanad: Local Authority Services: Motion. (22 Feb 2006)

Seanad: Local Authority Services: Motion. (22 Feb 2006)

Brendan Ryan: I will check the Official Report tomorrow. If there is a reference to my party leader, there will be enormous problems.

Seanad: Local Authority Services: Motion. (22 Feb 2006)

Brendan Ryan: The Minister should get down off his high horse.

Seanad: Local Authority Services: Motion. (22 Feb 2006)

Brendan Ryan: The Minister might as well tell us what it was in 1980.

Brendan Ryan: Twelve years ago.

Seanad: Order of Business. (23 Feb 2006)

Brendan Ryan: I support my colleagues with regard to emigrant representation. However, I am no longer sure that a meeting of the group leaders will work because one never knows what the Fianna Fáil backbenchers might do. We will need more than to have the Leader tell us she is in agreement because the backbenchers have decided they will assert themselves. Obviously, giving away a seat may not appeal to...
