Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Provision of Bus Services in Dublin: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: Has the application been made?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Provision of Bus Services in Dublin: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: We might follow up on that, or the NTA might follow it up in its own way and report back to the committee.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Provision of Bus Services in Dublin: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: I have just a few very quick questions, two on Limerick. It was announced that 20 electric buses are coming to Limerick in 2023. When will they arrive?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Provision of Bus Services in Dublin: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: Are they still on target to come to Limerick in 2023?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Provision of Bus Services in Dublin: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: That is good. I compliment Mr. Gaston in particular on the new 310 route. The 307 and 308 routes have been discontinued in Limerick. It covers Limerick city, the Ballysimon Road, the Groody Road, and the Northern Trust up into Castletroy and down into the University of Limerick. It is a hugely positive service. It happened very quickly and the route is working well. However, the signs...

Kieran O'Donnell: Yes.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Provision of Bus Services in Dublin: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: We should acknowledge when something effective was done. The route was discontinued overnight. It is back up and running now with Dublin Bus and the route itself is probably a better route.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Provision of Bus Services in Dublin: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: Yes, Dublin Coach. I am sorry. I apologise. It is late at night. No disrespect is intended to either party. It has probably turned out to be a better route. Like everything else, it has teething problems but it is working well at the moment and there is just the issue of the signs. On a technical point, I got a query from a taxi driver in Limerick regarding the dates for the extension...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Provision of Bus Services in Dublin: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: What is the deadline date for that?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Provision of Bus Services in Dublin: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: I thank Ms Graham for coming in. In summary, the National Transport Authority has made considerable progress both with Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead. It is probably still not perfect but it is a significant improvement. For me, it is that metric where, effectively, at peak times Go-Ahead has improved from 83% to 97% and Dublin Bus from 91.5% to 95%. The NTA is effectively getting there. The...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Provision of Bus Services in Dublin: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: We need to finish by 10 p.m. I must ask the Deputy to conclude.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Provision of Bus Services in Dublin: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: With that, we wish everyone well for the Christmas period. I thank all of the witnesses for coming in to assist the committee in this important matter. The next meeting of the joint committee will be in public session in committee room 4 tomorrow morning at the earlier time of 9.30 a.m.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Aviation Policy: Aer Lingus (Resumed) (14 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: Apologies have been received from Senator Craughwell. The purpose of today's meeting is to resume our discussion of national aviation policy. We are joined by representatives of Aer Lingus. I am very pleased to welcome Ms Lynne Embleton, CEO, Mr. Donal Moriarty, chief corporate affairs officer, Mr. Peter O'Neill, chief operations officer, and Mr. Reid Moody, chief strategy and planning...

Kieran O'Donnell: I thank Ms Embleton. We would very much welcome if all witnesses were as concise. I now move to committee members and I call Senator Buttimer to speak first, please. He is online in the House.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Aviation Policy: Aer Lingus (Resumed) (14 Dec 2022)

Kieran O'Donnell: Senator Buttimer is about to take up the position of Cathaoirleach of the Seanad, which is a very important position. This is probably his last appearance as a member of this committee and that is why he has given a robust performance today, as he always does. We wish him well in his new role next Friday. We will miss him on the committee but I have no doubt we will see him around the Houses.
