- Seanad: Order of Business (26 Feb 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: I wish to raise the issue of the apparent non-co-operation of both the Taoiseach and the Minister for Justice and Equality with the Omagh Support & Self Help Group, which is headed up by Michael Gallagher in Omagh. It commissioned a report approximately 19 months ago on what occurred on that dreadful day in 1998 when so many lost their lives as a result of the Real IRA's bombing of...
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 Feb 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: Well said.
- Seanad: Inland Waterways: Statements (26 Feb 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: I wish to share four minutes of my time with Senator Jim Walsh. I welcome the Minister, Deputy Jimmy Deenihan. I am surprised that he is here because I heard on Radio Kerry this morning that he was making a return to the Kerry colours in the light of the depletion in numbers this year, with two of the big stars not turning out. He is probably training in the evenings and we wish him well....
- Seanad: Action Plan for Jobs: Statements (5 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire, atá anseo chun díospóireacht a dhéanamh linn ar an ábhar tábhachtach seo. Tá cúrsaí fostaíochta i ngeilleagar na tíre seo fíorthábhachtach dúinn go léir. The area of job creation and employment is critical to Ireland's recovery. I welcome the Minister to the House for this discussion...
- Seanad: Action Plan for Jobs: Statements (5 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: I acknowledge that. The live register figures also show that people are leaving the country. In 2012 and 2013, for example, approximately 200 people left the country every day. On a national radio programme at breakfast time this morning, a person in Canada spoke of the number of Irish people who are setting down roots in Calgary and elsewhere in Canada where new GAA clubs are being...
- Seanad: Order of Business (6 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: Will the Deputy Leader arrange for a debate on the Commission for Energy Regulation, CER, in light of its decision to permit Bord Gáis to increase gas prices next year by an average of €13 per household? My worst fears are not being allayed. Irish Water is only consulting the CER on the prices that consumers will pay for water. Year on year, the CER has allowed electricity and...
- Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: An Fochoiste um an Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge 2010-2030 agus Rudaí Gaolmhara: Éirí an Choimisinéara Teanga as a Phost: Díospóireacht leis an Aire Stáit (6 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: Ceist í seo don Aire Stáit i dtaca leis na moltaí a tháinig chun cinn i mí Eanáir 2012 ón phobal, go háirithe ó phobal na Gaeltachta agus na Gaeilge. An bhfuil na moltaí sin curtha i bhfeidhm ins an athbhreithniú ar Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla? An bhfuil aon cheann de na moltaí sin curtha i bhfeidhm ins an doiciméad...
Brian Ó Domhnaill: Níl an díospóireacht seo ag dul áit ar bith. Tá sé soiléir ón méid atá ráite anseo go bhfuil an Rialtas ag déanamh athruithe bunúsacha ar an straitéis. D'éirigh an tUasal Ó Cuirreáin as a phost mar nach raibh sé sásta go raibh an straitéis á cur i bhfeidhm. Chonaic sé go raibh...
Brian Ó Domhnaill: Ba mhaith liom an cheist a chuir mo chomhghleacaí, an Teachta Ó Cuív, a mhíniú. Tá sé deacair ciall a bhaint as cuid de na hábhair seo. An bhfuil aonad speisialta nó sonrach sa Roinn? Tá aonad speisialta nó sonrach sa Roinn, nó níl aonad speisialta nó sonrach sa Roinn. Ba mhaith liom ceann amháin de na...

Brian Ó Domhnaill: An féidir liom freagra a fháil ar an gceist a chuir mé faoin mhéid a dúirt an tUachtarán?
- Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: An Fochoiste um an Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge 2010-2030 agus Rudaí Gaolmhara: Éirí an Choimisinéara Teanga as a Phost: Díospóireacht leis an Aire Stáit (6 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: Tá brón orm. An aontaíonn an tAire Stáit leis an méid a bhí le rá ag an Uachtarán inné? B'fhéidir go bhfuil an tAire Stáit sásta cúpla focal a rá.
- Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Leader Programmes Funding (11 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: I raise the new Leader programme 2014 to 2020. I wish to ascertain the level of funding that will be available from the State to co-fund the moneys available under the European Commission proposals. It is my understanding that the new Leader programme will involve 54% of EU funding which will require 46% of national funding to be secured. That will mean a cut in the region of €87...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: European Union (Common Fisheries Policy) (Point System) Regulations: Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (11 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: I welcome the members of SFPA. Is it expected that this new system will run concurrently with or in addition to the current criminal sanctions in place? The European Commission wants to move towards a more even system across the EU and this is probably a step in that direction with Ireland going down that road. Ireland is probably one of the only European countries, particularly the...
- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: I support the comments of my colleague, Senator Diarmuid Wilson, on the alignment process and the restructuring of Leader companies under the provisions of the recently passed Local Government Reform Bill which will have a negative effect and create more, not less, bureaucracy. I tabled a motion on the issue on the Adjournment last night and during the debate the Minister for the...
- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: I am sure the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, Deputy Jimmy Deenihan, knows Killarney National Park better than I do, but-----
- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: The volume of traffic through the other national parks is equal to that in Killarney, but they are only receiving 20% of the allocation.
- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: Perhaps the Leader might invite the Minister to come to the House to give us an explanation for why Killarney National Park is receiving €913,000 this year-----
- Seanad: Order of Business (12 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: -----while Glenveagh National Park in my area is only receiving €142,000 and Connemara National Park, €13,000.
- Seanad: Renewable Energy: Motion (12 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: I commend Sinn Féin on its introduction of this Private Members’ motion, and Fianna Fáil is delighted to be able to support it.
- Seanad: Renewable Energy: Motion (12 Mar 2014)
Brian Ó Domhnaill: I am glad Senator Cullinane raised an important point, because partitionism is alive and well in Sinn Féin, unfortunately. In Leitrim, one of Senator Cullinane's Sinn Féin colleagues is not opposed to fracking north of the Border but, because it is politically opportunistic, he is opposed to fracking south of the Border.
