Sandra McLellan: I welcome the witnesses and thank all the organisations for the tremendous work they do. I wish the Minister of State, Deputy Deenihan, well in his new role. I had a lot of engagement with him in his previous role as Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and I know he was very passionate about that. I am delighted he is here before us today and that we...
- Water Services Bill 2014: Committee Stage (Resumed) (12 Dec 2014)
Sandra McLellan: I also support the amendment tabled by Deputy Stanley. The entire proposal is vague. Members do not know how many people will sit on it and it could be 13, 59 or 25 people. Will representatives of local authorities be on it? Will householders sit on it? What will be the selection criteria? Who will make the selection? Will they be consumers or householders or will they even be...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: HIQA Review of National Ambulance Service: Health Service Executive (16 Dec 2014)
Sandra McLellan: I thank the delegates for their reports today. Most of my questions have been asked. I just want to focus on one or two issues. We constantly hear on the ground about the lack of trained personnel and resources. We are sometimes told ambulances are actually parked up because they do not have personnel to operate them. Two weeks ago, I heard two reports about ambulances that had been...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: HIQA Review of National Ambulance Service: Health Service Executive (16 Dec 2014)
Sandra McLellan: In the case to which I referred the ambulance crew who arrived at the scene realised another vehicle needed to be dispatched. They had to wait for the second vehicle to arrive because they were not qualified to administer the medication required. I understand it took in excess of 90 minutes for the second vehicle to arrive from Kilkenny, which is a long distance from Youghal.

Sandra McLellan: How many staff did the HSE interview? Was it five, ten, 20 or 100? I have not received an answer in this regard. In light of Ms McGuinness's presentation, it would appear that everything is fine. However, if the HSE only interviews only five or six people, it is obvious that everything is not fine. Will Ms McGuinness indicate whether the national ambulance service will operate within...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Áras Attracta: HSE (16 Dec 2014)
Sandra McLellan: Last week's "Prime Time" programme was shocking and disturbing to everybody across the island of Ireland. We need to ensure that the correct measures are put in place so that something like this does not happen again, even though, when I say "does not happen again", we are not sure whether it is happening now in other homes because the HIQA report on another care facility in County Meath for...
