- Health Services: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (3 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: The motion says our health service is underfunded. Michael Keary of Rochestown in Wexford was admitted to Beaumont Hospital on Monday night and his son Patrick wrote to me last night. This is his letter:My father recently started chemo in Beaumont Hospital. - Leaders' Questions (4 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: It appears that neither Shannon Airport Authority nor the Government knows, or keeps proper records on, what US military aircraft land at Shannon. On four occasions lately, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade denied on the Dáil record that an aircraft had landed, although we knew it had. Then he discovered we had proof. The Minister told the Dáil last Tuesday:Arising from...
- Leaders' Questions (4 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: While we are glad he corrected the record, it is a pity he denied it four times. It is proof that the Government did not know and that control of the military aircraft in Shannon has been outsourced to a civil authority, which is scary, given the importance the Government says it attaches to it. When the Labour Party was in opposition, it was adamant that aircraft should be inspected.
- Leaders' Questions (4 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: Former Deputy Michael D. Higgins and the former Tánaiste, Deputy Eamon Gilmore insisted that aircraft be searched and that unless they were, we could not know what was on them.
- Leaders' Questions (4 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: Why has the Labour Party changed its position? Why can we now take the word of the Americans, who tell us everything is grand? They told Angela Merkel they were not tapping her phone. We could not believe the time of day from these people. If we want to know what is on the aircraft, we have to inspect them. If the Government wants to know whether they are going to a war front, it must...
- Leaders' Questions (4 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: The Government is not protecting the Irish people's desire for peace and human rights. We are complicit in atrocious behaviour on the part of the US military in the Middle East, which has descended into anarchy thanks to their war efforts.
- Leaders' Questions (4 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: Will the Tánaiste, as leader of the Labour Party, consider revisiting her party's position on it and demanding we begin inspecting these aircraft?
- Water Services Bill 2014: Second Stage (Resumed) (4 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: It has been destroyed by NATO.
- Water Services Bill 2014: Second Stage (Resumed) (4 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: We do not agree with him, but we like him.
- Water Services Bill 2014: Second Stage (Resumed) (5 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: Last night I had a good read of the contribution made by the Minister, Deputy Alan Kelly - that is what I do in my leisure time - and while 20 minutes will not be enough to speak about it I will make a start. Approximately six weeks ago I described Irish water as a dysfunctional monster. Sadly, it is still drawing oxygen and it has not yet been slain. When anyone recalls the term of the...
- Confidence in Taoiseach and Government: Motion (9 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: The Dáil has been a different place for the past few months. There seems to be different mood in here, and there does not seem to be as much work being done. There is less legislation being passed and it is felt there is an election coming at some stage. It is felt that the Government is in its final days. The Taoiseach keeps telling us he has made Ireland a great country to do...
- Leaders' Questions (9 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: The Minister for Justice and Equality, Deputy Frances Fitzgerald, recently signed into law Part 3 of the Criminal Justice (Mutual Assistance) Act 2008. This refers to targeted surveillance, meaning the person or persons whose information is intercepted would be the subject of a particular criminal investigation, that the request shall be detailed and make a reasonable case for the necessity...
- Leaders' Questions (9 Dec 2014)
Mick Wallace: I am disappointed the Taoiseach does not know whether we have illegally authorised the monitoring of the sea cable. I am sure the Taoiseach is aware that in April of this year, the European Court of Justice ruled in favour of Digital Rights Ireland and declared the European directive on data retention invalid owing to its serious interference with private life and freedom of expression, thus...
