- Committee on Public Petitions: Reform of Insurance for Thatched Heritage Buildings: Discussion (Resumed) (30 Nov 2023)
Pat Buckley: That is where I am coming from. I will be very quick and give an example. When I was taking out my mortgage, I had to get house insurance. I had to have an alarm and so on. Those were the regulations and stipulations. The first fire, and only fire I had in my house, was the bloody alarm system they wanted to put in so I could get my mortgage put down. There was a €600 excess to...
- Committee on Public Petitions: Reform of Insurance for Thatched Heritage Buildings: Discussion (Resumed) (30 Nov 2023)
Pat Buckley: We are going to be facing something similar to this in my own town with the recent flooding and stuff. I understand companies have to make a profit but not extortionate profits from the suffering of someone else. Well before the recent flooding in Midleton, we had a flood back in 2015 or 2016 that did a lot of damage. People were coming into my office saying they could not get house...
- Committee on Public Petitions: Reform of Insurance for Thatched Heritage Buildings: Discussion (Resumed) (30 Nov 2023)
Pat Buckley: If I was a member and I was in the pot of €163.5 million, I would say "I have a good idea - the fire brigades are getting slower to the house fires so we will put up the premiums". It is not a concern that people are going to get burnt inside the house. It is a case of "if we put up the premium, that increases our profit". Do the witnesses know what I mean? It seems to be excuses...
- Committee on Public Petitions: Reform of Insurance for Thatched Heritage Buildings: Discussion (Resumed) (30 Nov 2023)
Pat Buckley: Very briefly, I thank all of the witnesses. These conversations have to happen sometime. People over on this side of the table think we are taking it personally. We do not take it personally. It is about us doing what we are supposed to do, which is to represent the people who have concerns and get them aired. We are not finished with this one. I do not think it is going to go off the...

- Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Waterways Ireland (12 Dec 2023)
Pat Buckley: 458. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government if his Department is aware of a confidentiality clause being signed within Waterways Ireland (details supplied); if this process is legal, given public money funds Waterways Ireland; if this development will be subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2014; and if he will make a statement on the matter. - Written Answers — Department of Health: Medical Aids and Appliances (12 Dec 2023)
Pat Buckley: 826. To ask the Minister for Health if he is aware that an elderly person has been waiting for over a year for a special bed for their home and still has not received one; the rationale for this (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [55243/23]

Pat Buckley: I agree with the Cathaoirleach regarding accountability.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (14 Dec 2023)
Pat Buckley: Yes, 100%.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (14 Dec 2023)
Pat Buckley: If I remember correctly going back years ago, it is on licence fees. As I said in the meeting, we took the remains of 92 nuns out of a graveyard in Youghal. To re-inter them we had to apply for an exemption licence to remove them. If the Department is using this as an excuse it is very wishy-washy.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (14 Dec 2023)
Pat Buckley: It is not my baby.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (14 Dec 2023)
Pat Buckley: If each body maintains that it is not its responsibility, then we request that it tells us what Department is responsible.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (14 Dec 2023)
Pat Buckley: I agree with option B.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (14 Dec 2023)
Pat Buckley: I agree with the recommendations on the petition. We should get legal advice from the OPLA before it can be moved forward.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (14 Dec 2023)
Pat Buckley: I know there was a previous response from the Department but it just seems to be giving excuses to avoid carrying out what the families are requesting. Looking at the recommendations, I would certainly go back to the petitioner and wait for a comment on that. I would like to see what is stopping any Department from exhuming the bodies and reinterring them. It just baffles me.
- Tribunal of Inquiry into certain matters relating to the Complaints Processes in the Defence Forces: Motion (24 Jan 2024)
Pat Buckley: I will cut straight to the chase. The terms of reference of this tribunal of inquiry are too tight. This is not coming from me; it is coming from those present in the Gallery who have lobbied on this issue. I ask the Government to accept the Sinn Féin amendment. I listened to previous speakers. I will stick to the issue of chemical abuse in the Defence Forces because I want to...
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Hospital Services (23 Jan 2024)
Pat Buckley: 637.
