Mary O'Rourke: Iarnród Ãireann should go out and look for business. They should say, "We have the rail tracks, we need freight and we want to get the going rate for it." We should lift freight of all kinds from the roads to the rail. The cost-benefit analysis shows there would huge advantages.

- Seanad: Order of Business. (20 Nov 2002)
Mary O'Rourke: Since 1996 all ships must have a double hull. While 2015 is a long way off I wanted to give the Senator the exact position. We will have to see if that can be advanced in any way and, perhaps, that is a matter for the Minister when he goes to the ministerial Council meetings. It is a terrible disaster. The Ceann Comhairle's room is not a matter for this House.

Mary O'Rourke: Senator McDowell spoke about the freezing of developmental aid. I suggest he raise that matter tomorrow on the Estimates debate with the Minister for Finance. Senator MacSharry referred to the types of vessels which are still allowed in our waters and the protection of our waters. I do not think anything can protect against what happened in Galicia. It is catastrophe. As I said to Senator...

Senator Terry, echoed by Senator O'Meara, also raised the...

It is good that the two Governments have tried to fill the vacuum and that despite the suspension they continue to work together. The publicity given to the...
