- Order of Business (8 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: As I said to Deputy Durkan on the criminal law (sexual offences) Bill, there was a report to Government last July and work is proceeding in the Department. It probably will not be finished for some time. The fines (amendment) Bill is due this session.
- Order of Business (8 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: The Government authorised the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform to give the chairman of the Labour Relations Commission a few extra days to engage with unions with regard to Croke Park II. I hope some progress can be made in that regard. The chairman of the LRC will report to the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform on Monday and the Minister will brief the Cabinet on Tuesday...
- Order of Business (8 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: The Minister will have a briefing from the chairman of the LRC on Monday.
- Order of Business (8 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: I prefer to allow the extra time for discussions to take place between the unions and the LRC and to have the chairman of the LRC brief the Minister on Monday and the Minister report to the Cabinet on Tuesday. The Government will consider the outcome and the options at that time.
- Order of Business (8 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: The Government made a decision to have effective payments from 1 January 2015, which are retrospective for three months. The payments will be from October 2014 but only payable from 1 January 2015. The Government has been in negotiation and discussion with the troika and progress was made in that regard. I cannot give confirmation of the outcome but I understand it was satisfactory and I...
- Order of Business (8 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: The criminal justice (miscellaneous provisions) Bill will be taken later this year. Deputy Broughan received his letter on 23 April setting out the position. I would like to be able to give an end date for this Priory Hall debacle but there are court cases tied up in it and I cannot comment on it.
- Order of Business (8 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: That is due in the middle of next year according to the present preparation.
- Europe Week: Statements (8 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: On 10 May 1972, 41 years ago on Friday, the people went to the polls to decide whether to join what was then the European Economic Community. More than four in five people voted "Yes". As we mark the 40th anniversary of our membership this year, it is plain that the four decades since we voted have fully vindicated our choice. The Ireland of the early 1970s was a very different place. It...

Vote 4 - Central Statistics Office (Revised)
Vote 5 - Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Revised)
Vote 6 - Office of the Chief State Solicitor (Revised) (9 May 2013) Enda Kenny: Perhaps I will take the questions that have come from the Deputies and the sub-committee can go through the individual Votes at the end. I believe the normal procedure is that the Chairman would put the Votes individually. I will try to answer some of the questions that were raised. Deputy Sean Fleming raised the question about Croke Park II. Clearly, the discussions and negotiations...

Vote 5 - Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Revised)
Vote 6 - Office of the Chief State Solicitor (Revised) (9 May 2013) Enda Kenny: I think the gardaí are examining that at the moment. Obviously it is not for me to comment on an investigation that is taking place by the Garda Síochána, but I understand the Deputy's question. Deputy Dara Murphy asked about EU-US trade negotiations. A high-level report was produced from Europe and the United States in respect of the potential and it was generally...

I thank the Secretary General and, through him, the staff of the Department of the Taoiseach for the work they do on a constant basis. Only I know the extent of the work that goes into the dealings of the Department under my control. It...
- Leaders' Questions (14 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: I wish to extend my sympathies and those of the Government to the parents of the young child who died as a result of this incident. I heard the radio report on the work done by Mr. Kevin Hennessy, a well-known neighbour of the child's family. These are always tragic cases and nothing we say or do here can bring back that child to his parents. The incident has been escalated to the HSE's...
- Leaders' Questions (14 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: In the vast majority of cases the response of the national ambulance service is up to the standard that is expected. In this particular case a child fell from a window and died. As I have said, nothing will bring that child back. However, it is important that we ascertain the facts as to what happened after the 999 call was made at 2 p.m. It is important that we get the facts of the...
- Leaders' Questions (14 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: Let us examine it.
- Leaders' Questions (14 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: Until 2012 paramedics were on call and answered calls after 8 p.m. from their own homes. This roster was changed and they are now on duty 24/7 which should, one would think, provide an enhanced service. I have no difficulty, when the facts of the matter come to light, with bringing it back to the House and letting everybody know.
- Leaders' Questions (14 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: I take the Deputy's point about the requirement for people to have confidence and trust in the national ambulance service, and from this perspective I have asked the Minister for Health to publish a general report on national response times and for a report from the high risk management team on this particularly sad case.
- Leaders' Questions (14 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: As Deputy Adams is aware, the Good Friday Agreement sets out a bill of rights for Northern Ireland that would include the right of recognition of the principle of mutual respect for the identity and ethos of communities and parties in Northern Ireland. We support the principle of parties in Northern Ireland setting down their views in drawing up an agreement in respect of this bill of...
- Leaders' Questions (14 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: Deputy Adams is aware that the British Government has put forward a series of proposals concerning economic incentives to develop and strengthen the economy in Northern Ireland. While this is clearly a matter for the British Government and the Northern Ireland Executive, I welcome that and would like to see it progressed. In fact, I expect that in the preparatory period for the G8 summit in...
- Leaders' Questions (14 May 2013)
Enda Kenny: After that long dissertation, Deputy Clare Daly understands well what we have to do: get our public finances in order, restore our country to prosperity and get our people back to work. That is why I am glad the unions have agreed to suspend the strike and go back to talks with Bus Éireann at the Labour Relations Commission. I hope that over the next 48 hours or so, the discussions...
