Micheál Carrigy: I totally understand that but the potential of that arising was an issue that was brought to my attention in the last couple of weeks, so I wanted to put it on record.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage: Planning and Development (Exempted Development (Act of 2000)) Regulations 2025: Discussion (14 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: That concludes our consideration of this matter. I propose that the committee request the clerk to the committee to inform the Dáil and Seanad accordingly. Is that agreed? Agreed. I thank the Minister of State, Deputy Cummins, and his officials for assisting the committee in its consideration of this matter. It is the first time he is has brought legislation to this committee. I...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Schemes (16 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: I have a question about the LIS. The Minister stated that some counties are not spending their allocation. I come from the county of Longford, where we have huge waiting lists. We spend our entire allocation. I ask that any moneys not spent by a local authority be ring-fenced and sent back to those local authorities that are spending what has been allocated and have long waiting lists.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Programmes (16 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: 91. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht when the announcement of allocation of funding under the LEADER programme will be; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [55609/25]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Programmes (16 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: My question is about the allocation of funding for the new LEADER programme from 2027 onwards. I have seen the success of the programme since it started in my county of Longford. We were successful in getting significant funding, all of which was drawn down for projects in the county. It has had a huge benefit and has improved communities throughout the county. I have been involved in a...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Departmental Programmes (16 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: I thank the Minister for that strong commitment. As he said, it has a massive impact in communities throughout the country, from playgrounds to tourism products - you name it. It has left its impact and it is important that we, the local action groups, LAGs, and the local LEADER companies working on the ground know that the Government is going to put in the matched funding to make sure they...

Select Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2025
Vote 33 - Culture, Communications and Sport (Further Revised)
(15 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: I am north of that line. I totally concur. It is the greatest field sport in the world and it is in our own country. I am one of those people who was involved, as chairperson of a hurling board, when we did not actually have a county team. We had seven players. We went out, pushed hard and ended up in a Division 3 league final that year and won the Lory Meagher Cup in Croke Park the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Integration of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and the Camogie Association with the GAA: Gaelic Players Association (15 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: The witnesses are very welcome. I apologise; I was in the Chamber for the confidence motion earlier on. In the opening statement, the GPA states that this is a great opportunity. It was also said that this is the greatest sporting organisation in the world. Further down in the statement provided, it is stated that "They will say integration wasn’t driven by politics, but by...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Integration of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and the Camogie Association with the GAA: Gaelic Players Association (15 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: All members of the association, including me and Deputy Ó Snodaigh, are equal members. The three associations are in discussions. Mary McAleese was appointed to work with the three associations. Her diary is the reason we have not managed to find a date to get the three associations in here rather than any issue with the associations themselves. I just wished to make that clear....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Integration of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and the Camogie Association with the GAA: Gaelic Players Association (15 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: Every member is equal. I support the GPA. I was supportive of the extra funding for the association and I served with it for two years. However, I do not believe the process should be skewed towards a certain percentage of the membership of the organisation. The GAA is built on volunteerism and amateurism. If that changes, we will destroy the association. We want to expand. We spoke...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Integration of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and the Camogie Association with the GAA: Gaelic Players Association (15 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: I just want to cut in. I have not been critical. It is not fair to say I was critical. What I have said is that all of us are equal as members of the association and all of our opinions are equal. That is the way it should be.

Select Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2025
Vote 33 - Culture, Communications and Sport (Further Revised)
(15 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: The Minister is very welcome. I support any funding that is put into major events, which has a huge knock-on effect for the Irish economy, or the funding into the centre of excellence. We need that. We have seen our national team and where we are. We do not invest in the grassroots and that is where it needs to be. Those academies need to be in every single existing League of Ireland...

Committee on Disability Matters: Autonomy and Integrity for Persons with Disabilities: Discussion (15 Oct 2025)

Micheál Carrigy: I welcome the witnesses. I have some questions for the Courts Service on the transition. What mechanisms are in place for that? Are there sufficient mechanisms, in the opinion of the witnesses, to allow for that and allow for co-ordination between relevant bodies and the Courts Service? The National Advocacy Service mentioned in its introduction that implementation is more than just...
