- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Road Safety Strategy 2021-30: Discussion (30 Jun 2022)
Jerry Buttimer: The assistant commissioner mentioned distractions. Are our vehicles today becoming too distracting? Are they becoming the dining room, the office, the entertainment or whatever else? Senator Horkan’s raised the point of having a black box in cars, which I know would never travel because of GDPR. However, on the issue of distractions, is our focus wrong? Are we focusing too much on...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Greater Dublin Area Transport Strategy 2022-2042: National Transport Authority (28 Jun 2022)
Jerry Buttimer: First, I endorse the remarks of my colleague, Senator Seery Kearney, about metro south west. We have had much engagement from members of that group and principals in that area who are articulating strong views. The officials have received a couple of emails, as we have as correspondence, from that committee around the whole Dublin transport authority and Dublin transport plan. I welcome Ms...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Greater Dublin Area Transport Strategy 2022-2042: National Transport Authority (28 Jun 2022)
Jerry Buttimer: On that, is there any hope the NTA could meet either the regional assembly or the council, on foot of both Deputy Catherine Murphy and me raising it during this meeting? There was reference to 11 options, only two of which are going through St. Catherine's Park, but genuine concerns have been articulated during this meeting, although I appreciate the demands on the authority’s time. ...

The important point is we overcome the obstacles to the delivery of this. I hope we will have the national broadband people back in regularly.
- Committee on Public Petitions: Consideration of Public Petition on Adding Chefs to the Critical Skills List Now to Save Irish Hospitality: Discussion (7 Jul 2022)
Jerry Buttimer: I thank Mr. Lynn for his presentation. I heard him on Newstalk. To be fair, it is not only Ireland that has an issue with skilled workers in the hospitality sector. The Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Deputy Harris, has a new apprenticeship plan. The issue of hospitality, bar management and executive chefs to level 9 have been included in that....

- Committee on Public Petitions: Consideration of Public Petition on Adding Chefs to the Critical Skills List Now to Save Irish Hospitality: Discussion (7 Jul 2022)
Jerry Buttimer: That is a fair point. My final comment is in the context of where we are today. We have had a very good engagement. I apologise for missing the private meeting yesterday. I suggest that on foot of today's meeting we look at the possibility of inviting in Fáilte Ireland, Adrian Cummins on behalf of the hospitality sector, and maybe the Minister of State, Deputy English, or the...

Jerry Buttimer: I welcome our witnesses from east Cork. Like Deputy Buckley, I wish to state that it is a pity that we are here today. I was at the HSE briefing on the closure of...
