This relates to a concern I had with regard to differentiating between a significant failure by a practitioner to meet the standards of competence and the rather blanket term used at present. Liz McManus: I regret this as an opportunity lost. One of the difficulties experienced was that the Medical Council is seen as a distant august body which perpetuates the idea that doctors are somehow superhuman and not like the rest of us. I though the Medical Council reaching out to the public would have been a good part of its brief.
