James Reilly: On the serious issue of mental health, all sides of the House, and the other House, will acknowledge our Minister of State with responsibility for that area is hugely committed to it and has had a personal tragic experience of mental health issues in her own family. I have no doubt she would have no problem explaining how the moneys are being spent and the Government's commitment to this...

- Seanad: Order of Business (17 Nov 2016)
James Reilly: I want to end on a positive note. This week a new book on designing houses for people who face mental health challenges and how design can help them was published. I commend this book and I want to take the opportunity to advertise the fact that architects, builders and planners should refer to it. Before I finish, there is another little bit of good news. In St. Ita's Hospital, a large...
- Seanad: Order of Business (17 Nov 2016)
James Reilly: Well, if I had not been interrupted so much, I would have finished sooner. The fine building of St. Ita's is being used as a film set with Sean Penn and Mel Gibson. I want to ensure the moneys which accrue to the hospital as a consequence of the filming, are ring fenced and used to the benefit of the clients who reside there, not for any other purposes.
- Seanad: Horticulture Industry: Statements (22 Nov 2016)
James Reilly: I will be very brief. I welcome the Minister of State to the House and very much welcome the opportunity to speak to this issue. Many Senators are focused on the mushroom industry, and rightly so because it is in difficulty. As Senator Mulherin said, energy costs are an issue, and support for green innovation would send a strong message from Government about our serious intent regarding...
- Seanad: Order of Business (24 Nov 2016)
James Reilly: I welcome the comments by the leader of Fianna Fáil about the good news from the Central Bank providing first-time buyers with some help towards affording to purchase homes. This acknowledges the reality in Dublin that a limit of €200,000 was not feasible and that it is very difficulty to find a property now in that price bracket in the capital. I note the comments of Senator...

James Reilly: Gabhaim mo leithscéal leis na Seanadóirí eile.I was not aware of that and I apologise. At least it means that my delivery will not be as rushed as it might otherwise have been. I welcome the First Minister on this historic occasion. It is not her first visit to this country as First Minister but it is certainly a very historic one, which we all welcome. As the First...

I welcome the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Deputy Mary Mitchell O'Connor, and congratulate her on initiating the Bill in the Seanad. - Seanad: Order of Business (6 Dec 2016)
James Reilly: Senator McDowell, sorry. Pardon me. Dare I say, it was a senior moment. Senator McDowell raised an interesting point about aquifers. I would like to see that report and consider its accuracy. We have had a lot of discussion about that in north County Dublin where there is a large aquifer but the information I had at the time was that it certainly would not be sufficient on its own to...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Economic Impact of Brexit: Discussion (Resumed) (6 Dec 2016)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Economic Impact of Brexit: Discussion (Resumed) (6 Dec 2016)
James Reilly: Nobody wants a hard Brexit and all of us on both sides of the Border understand the importance of the latter remaining open and of the free movement of people. We are here to learn from each other. Notwithstanding the earlier comments of an tAire, Mr. Ó Muilleoir, there must be some opportunities arising from Brexit because there are always opportunities. What do the Ministers view as...
- Seanad: Cystic Fibrosis Treatment: Statements (8 Dec 2016)
James Reilly: I welcome the Minister to the House. I have no wish to be distracted from what we are discussing, but I listened to the last speaker discussing transplants. As the Minister of the day at the time I know of the extra money and the transplant office put in place. I know of all the additional transplants that have taken place since then and, therefore, I would find it difficult not to...
