- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Carbon Budgets: Engagement with the Climate Change Advisory Council (7 Dec 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: I thank Ms Donnelly for her presentation and for being with us. Starting off with the Climate Change Advisory Council, CCAC, itself, in earlier stages it was insightful to get the perspective of former chairs on the working of the group. After Ms Donnelly's initial experience, are there ways she would improve the CCAC? Is she happy it is sufficiently resourced, has access to the necessary...

Darren O'Rourke: I thank the witnesses. I will follow up on some of the issues on procurement. Is there a threshold above or below which projects have to be tendered? Darren O'Rourke: I will move on to a separate but related issue. It was reported in the media that in mid-March the cliff rescue services were temporarily suspended. Why was this? - Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Coast Guard: Discussion (18 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: I will come back to the substantive issue with a question for Mr. Clonan. I am struggling to square this to be honest. I have submitted parliamentary questions on this. I hear what the Coast Guard and the Department are saying in terms of it being a great place to work with a relatively low number of disciplinary actions and dismissals. There is a significant programme of change and...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Coast Guard: Discussion (18 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: The next body of work that we need to do is to try to create a forum where we can knit this together. What we are hearing is deeply concerning. Part of it is the recognition of the new group and engagement with it. These issues are deeply concerning, and they are unhealthy. We should grasp the opportunity if there is a willingness to address them.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Energy Charter Treaty and Energy Security: Discussion (23 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: I thank the Chairman and I very much appreciate that. I also thank the witnesses. My apologies to Dr. Saheb as I did not quite hear a couple of figures that she referred to and I may ask her to repeat them. I believe she mentioned that there were €2.15 trillion in stranded assets and also referred to a €1.3 trillion figure. Can she clarify what those figures relate to? I...

- Ceisteanna (Atógáil) - Questions (Resumed) - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Energy Prices (14 Dec 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: It is quite incredible a week out from Christmas that we are here with nothing more than an outline of a plan to do something on runaway electricity bills and nothing on home heating oil or fuel. Everyone could see the trend. As far back as 3 February Sinn Féin brought a Private Members' motion on the issue. The Government said its hands were tied. Wholesale gas prices increased by...
- Ceisteanna (Atógáil) - Questions (Resumed) - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Energy Prices (14 Dec 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: To what degree has an assessment been made of alternative ways to introduce this legislation or regulation in the quickest way possible? What does quarter 1 of next year mean? Is it the case that we will be dealing with this legislation for the first three months of next year? When will people see this impact on their bills? That is the real question people have. They want to see it...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Electricity Generation (14 Dec 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: Whitegate is one of the power plants that was shut down, which, as I understand it, contributed to some of the difficulties relating to the supply of electricity. Further delays in the return to operation have been reported in the past number of weeks. Has testing started at Whitegate? When might the plant be back up and running?
