- Seanad: Housing (Regulation of Approved Housing Bodies) Bill 2019: Second Stage (10 Dec 2019)
Anthony Lawlor: Some of the houses being built by local authorities nowadays are to a very high standard. I attended a public private partnership meeting between a builder and representatives of a local authority. The quality of the houses the local authorities build is outstanding and is a credit to them. I will support the Bill because it is important to have regulation of AHBs, given that, as the...

- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 Dec 2019)
Anthony Lawlor: I wish to be associated with those comments. It is difficult when a person is taken away so early in life. All young people, no matter what age they are, have achieved something. I listened to Senator Humphreys, who has highlighted someone who had significant potential. It is sad to see a young life being taken so tragically. Yesterday's report from the Central Bank highlighted the cost...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 Dec 2019)
Anthony Lawlor: I know and I appreciate that. Could we get the Minister for Justice and Equality in to explain why there is a delay in this? It affects all of us, whether we are in a small or large business, have a car, or run a farm. Can we get the Minister in to discuss the reasons why the clock is not ticking on the committee?

Anthony Lawlor: No.
- Seanad: Social Welfare (No. 2) Bill 2019: Report and Final Stages (17 Dec 2019)
Anthony Lawlor: This is not normal procedure. In my time in the House, it has happened only once and the proposal in that instance was put to a vote. The Senator has had plenty of time to debate her proposals.
- Seanad: Social Welfare (No. 2) Bill 2019: Report and Final Stages (17 Dec 2019)
Anthony Lawlor: My concern is that by accepting the Senator's proposal, there may be a consequent delay in the passing of the Bill. There are many people who will gain, from 1 January 2020, as a result of changes set out in the legislation. If these amendments are agreed, the Bill will have to go back to the Dáil, which would require its being recalled during Christmas week. Is that what the Senator...

- Seanad: Social Welfare (No. 2) Bill 2019: Report and Final Stages (17 Dec 2019)
Anthony Lawlor: These amendments were put down last week and there was plenty of opportunity to discuss them at that stage, but the Senator was not here.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (18 Dec 2019)
Anthony Lawlor: I would also like to be associated with wishing a happy Christmas and peaceful new year to Members, the Seanad staff and all of the staff throughout the whole facility whether they are in the catering section or the printing side, which might not be popular at the moment. I wish everyone a happy Christmas and peaceful new year, and I hope that we will all be back here in the new year to...

Anthony Lawlor: I commend the Minister and the Government on the work they have done so far. I also commend the staff of the health sector. It is not just people on the front line but pharmacists and others such as carers who are meeting elderly people on a regular basis. I acknowledge the speed of the reaction since the first confirmed case and the necessity of this type of legislation. It is something...
- Seanad: Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (Covid-19) Bill 2020: Motion for Earlier Signature (27 Mar 2020)
Anthony Lawlor: I, too, wish the Cathaoirleach all the best and thank him. We have not always seen eye to eye but he has always been fair. The Leas-Chathaoirleach, Senator Coghlan, is stepping down. Both he and the Cathaoirleach have done an excellent job. I thank the ushers and other staff in Leinster House for the courtesy they have shown me and all Members. They are going through difficult times...
