Róisín Shortall: Dr. Lambert has spoken about the need for six months' neurorehabilitation for somebody who has been out of work long term. What is the access to that like for insured patients and more specifically for public patients?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Effects of Long Covid and Provision of Long Covid Care: Engagement with Dr. John Lambert (6 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: Are all the clinics open to public patients? The Government is talking about one in each hospital group. Are they all public clinics?

Róisín Shortall: I appreciate that.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Vaginal Mesh Implants: Discussion (29 Jun 2022)

Róisín Shortall: The question of the skill set could be addressed if proper funding was supplied for training. I note that the NHS in Scotland is contracting with St. Louis, rather than training its own people. We will raise that issue afterwards. I have a couple of quick questions to which I am not sure if our guests are in a position to provide answers. There has been mention of the discrepancy...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Vaginal Mesh Implants: Discussion (29 Jun 2022)

Róisín Shortall: Is it a requirement that you must go to two clinics?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: I thank the witnesses for the presentation. I would like several issues clarified. I had similar figures to Deputy Cullinane. I wonder where that disparity is between 44,000 and 20,000. Perhaps it has something to do with waiting lists for first appointments. I am very glad to see in the figures I have that no adult is waiting for treatment in CHO 9, which is my local area. This is a...

Róisín Shortall: Have the roles been approved?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: What is Ashgrove House?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: I take it that what is happening in Ashgrove House is a development relating to the Mater public hospital?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: The general conversation here today raises a whole lot of questions about why it is that we do not have integration. Much of this seems to involve the obvious things to do. We have to ask why that did not happen in the past. Is it an issue about there being just too many organisations? It probably makes the case strongly for the kind of integration to which the Sláintecare report...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: Is the governance structure being future-proofed to enable it to come into line with the regional health authorities, RHAs? My concern is that there is a new governance structure being established around this project and that it will have to change then when the RHAs come into place.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: I am sorry. I appreciate what Professor Keegan is doing, but he knows that the six RHA areas have been decided for the past few years. I am just asking if he is future-proofing his project in order that it can align with the new RHA areas?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: I am not undermining the work the witnesses are doing - it is fantastic to see the progress on waiting lists - but I am looking at the waiting lists across the other CHOs. For example, in CHO 6 and CHO 7, there are no adults on waiting lists. Do the witnesses know what the latter are doing? Is it something similar to what the witnesses are doing or are they taking a different approach?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: That is one way of dealing with it.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: My final question relates to CHO 9. Up to quite recently, there was a private clinic in Fairview that was involved in tackling the waiting lists. Has that clinic got any role currently? What led the witnesses to change to a different kind of model?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: But it is a factor in it then. I am sorry, but I thought Professor Keegan was talking about the entirety of optical care-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Integrated Eye Care: Discussion (13 Jul 2022)

Róisín Shortall: -----and that the six organisations he referenced were involved in that, but there are then private providers as well.
