- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Digital Green Certificate and Rapid Antigen Testing: Discussion (12 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: I welcome Mr. Bassato. Based on his experience with rapid antigen testing, would he recommend to the committee that we should progressively pursue that policy with the Government?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Digital Green Certificate and Rapid Antigen Testing: Discussion (12 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: In Mr. Bassato's experience, has he seen a negative outcome from antigen testing?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Digital Green Certificate and Rapid Antigen Testing: Discussion (12 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: In the context of Rome's airport, which is now a biosafe airport, how would he describe the passenger experience from the beginning to the end? I ask Mr. Bassato to include the antigen testing in place on-site, in terms of the three locations. The airport used to have three locations.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Digital Green Certificate and Rapid Antigen Testing: Discussion (12 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: My final question relates to the DGC in operation internally in Italy. How long did it take to prepare from beginning to end?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Covid-19 Testing and Air Travel: Nuevo Ireland (12 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: The most important point is Deputy Lowry’s point that what we are trying to do is to be complementary in the whole process rather than exclusive. The Deputy is correct on that. I suggest that, rather than asking questions, as a committee, we would look at further investigation of the issue of antigen to support the work that has been done here today.
- Seanad: Affordable Housing Bill 2021: Second Stage (17 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: Ar dtús báire, cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire. I welcome the Minister. This Bill is, as we all know, very important. It is one that we should all support and collaboratively and collectively work together on, irrespective of ideology. Like Senator Malcolm Byrne, I have no hang up in encouraging development, be it private or public. We need the Construction Federation of...
- Seanad: Affordable Housing Bill 2021: Second Stage (17 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: There you go.
- Seanad: Affordable Housing Bill 2021: Second Stage (17 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: Many of us have been concerned that a generation is being left out of reach of home ownership. That is our legacy, unfortunately, of a lost decade, but now in this decade we can rebuild and start building. When I heard people criticise Eoghan Murphy when he was Minister, some of them were in the ivory tower of being in opposition and never making a decision except to cross the road or come...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (18 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: Last week, the Leader facilitated a debate on the European digital green certificate in this House, which is to be welcomed. This morning the Cabinet has not received a memorandum to progress the European digital green certificate and its agenda. This is most disappointing and worrying. I ask the Leader to invite the Minister to come to the House to discuss the ongoing delay in this...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (18 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: I seek a debate on anti-social behaviour, particularly in a post-Covid world. I do so in the context of Cork city, which is becoming a no-go area for many people. People are feeling threatened and worried in the city centre by gangs of youths. I appeal to An Garda Síochána and Cork City Council to not allow a city to become the site of a summer of discontent.
- Seanad: Health and Criminal Justice (Covid-19) (Amendment) Bill 2021: Second Stage (24 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: It is agreed reluctantly.
- Seanad: Health and Criminal Justice (Covid-19) (Amendment) Bill 2021: Second Stage (24 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: I welcome the Minister to the House. I respect the need for the Bill and the extension of the dates. The remarks of Senators McDowell and Burke are to be noted by all of us. The vaccination programme is working. Today, we heard that 300,000 Covid-19 vaccines were administered last week, and that is to be the case again this week. It is proof that the vaccination programme is working....
- Seanad: Health and Criminal Justice (Covid-19) (Amendment) Bill 2021: Second Stage (24 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: The Minister might get NIAC and NPHET to agree with them.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Issues Affecting the Aviation Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (19 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: I welcome Mr. Walsh. I am sure everything he said will be counterbalanced by NPHET, the Department of Health and the HSE, which will say that public health lies at the core of everything we do. I concur with Mr. Walsh in his remarks - I am paraphrasing - that we have a repressive regime and that if we are to have access to and involvement in the digital green certificate and if people are...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Issues Affecting the Aviation Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (19 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: What is the import of that for foreign direct investment and for the ordinary traveller travelling? How does that manifest itself?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Issues Affecting the Aviation Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (19 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: The committee should take up the issue of reduced connectivity following Mr. Walsh's presentation today. I concur with Mr. Walsh on the vaccination bonus. It is meant to be that; a passport to travel safely. I should have put on the record at the beginning of the meeting that I received a briefing from Mr. Peter O'Broin and Mr. Simon McNamara of IATA. I compliment Mr. Walsh on the IATA...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Issues Affecting the Aviation Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (19 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: Mr. Walsh said he had had no engagement with Government other than with the Minister, Deputy Donohoe. I presume NPHET did not engage with him or any of his representatives.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Issues Affecting the Aviation Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (19 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: Of course, some Oireachtas Members and members of this committee were all for mandatory hotel quarantining and sought a zero approach to Covid. Look where that got us. I am concerned that Ireland, as a country, will not be ready for the digital green certificate, the Covid passport. I ask Mr. Walsh to comment on our preparedness and our supposed conservative approach to the digital green...
- Seanad: Search and Rescue System: Motion (28 May 2021)
Jerry Buttimer: I second the amendment and I commend the Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Deputy Naughton, on being here today. I welcome this debate. It is important at the beginning of our debate that we pay tribute to and thank all those involved in search and rescue, in particular the men and women who put their lives at risk to save people on a daily basis. Many of us know people who...
