Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Na Seirbhísí Uisce agus Séarachais a chuireann Uisce Éireann ar fáil i gceantair Ghaeltachta: Plé. (21 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Táim ag iarraidh a fháil amach cén sórt ama atá i gceist. Is dócha nach bhfuil an t-eolas sin ag na finnéithe faoin am seo. Dúirt duine liom cheana féin go bhfuil bealach eile ann chun an clóirín a chur isteach. Is féidir cineál gáis a úsáid. Níl an fhadhb chéanna leis an ngás atá leis an...

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Is that not also part of the problem? It is the ceangal or the reaction that causes the darkness, is it not?

Ruairí Ó Murchú: It turns it brown.

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Iron oxide.

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Dúirt Uisce Éireann go mbaineann an fhadhb leis an mangainéis seachas le iron oxide ag am seo.

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Is dócha go bhfuil. Táim ag iarraidh an timeline a fháil amach. Más rud é go bhfuil duine éigin ábalta an t-eolas sin a thabhairt dúinn i ndiaidh seo-----

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Defence Forces (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I absolutely agree that we want to see justice. We also want to see a fair trial. Based on what the Tánaiste said, there will be plenty of interaction and eyes on this from our point of view. It was necessary that UNIFIL carried out its particular investigation. Obviously, our Defence Forces have their piece of work to do. This needs to be followed up with a Garda inquiry. All of...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Defence Forces (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: 116. To ask the Taoiseach and Minister for Defence his views on the progress being made in the investigation into the death in Lebanon of UNIFIL soldier Private Seán Rooney; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29526/23]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Defence Forces (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I thank the Tánaiste for the answer he has given. Obviously, the loss of Private Seán Rooney was a huge loss to his family and the 27th Infantry Battalion in Dundalk. We all want justice done. Some of my questions are the same as those of Deputy Cowen. I accept that the Tánaiste might not be able to go into sufficient detail but we want to be sure that his interactions with...

LGBTQI+ Equality: Statements (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I also follow up with our support and solidarity, particularly at this time as we look forward to Pride. We accept that huge strides have been made over the past 50 years but there is still a hell of a lot more to do and we need to ensure that everything is done to ensure absolute equality for all those in the LGBTQI+ community. I wish to raise an issue relating to Outcomers. The...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Equality Issues (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: The Women's Aid annual report was published and makes for very stark reading. We are talking about nearly 34,000 disclosures of domestic violence. We know this is right across Irish society, including public bodies. We need to know what plans are in place to ensure we can provide the rights and protections these women deserve. To these figures I will add a number of figures which...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Departmental Data (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Staff are in limbo.

Ceisteanna - Questions: Departmental Data (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: The well-being framework for Ireland obviously has to take into account the disability sector. The voluntary sector provides about two thirds of disability services on behalf of the State. That enables people with disabilities to live independently, further their education and avail of much-needed respite for themselves and their families. The HSE previously reported that many voluntary...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Cabinet Committees (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: We have spoken before on the importance of getting the Executive up and running. The drift that we are experiencing at the minute cannot continue. Obviously, that will need to be dealt with. The British-Irish Intergovernmental Conference met yesterday at the Mansion House. A joint communiqué was issued after the meeting, stating that the Northern Ireland Troubles (Legacy and...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Decarbonisation of the Heat Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: In fairness, I have listened to most of this but that does not mean I will not need to be corrected at some stage about something I did not hear. Professor Mathiesen’s take was interesting. Deputies O’Rourke and Smith dealt with the issue of communal heating systems. On some level we all see the potential in regard to district heating systems. Everyone gets the idea of...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Decarbonisation of the Heat Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: People are reliant on their neighbours.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Decarbonisation of the Heat Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: This is a housing estate; it is not even an apartment. It is probably somewhat anomalous compared with the rest of them, which are nearly all apartments - the 200 homes.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Decarbonisation of the Heat Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I accept everything that Mr. Connolly has said and obviously this is an issue that needs to be dealt with. Carlinn Hall will clearly need a bespoke a solution. Hopefully, geothermal with a follow-up grant scheme or whatever will provide it with that, yet beyond a bespoke solution for that estate, we all understand the heat produced by a data centre or whatever. I am just wondering what is...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Decarbonisation of the Heat Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: -----the general Dundalk area and whether we are talking about kilometres rather than 1 km, which would provide considerable bandwidth. The regulation or legislation is necessary so that we do not continue with the problem that we have created, which even Britain has dealt with but we have not. Unfortunately, we are still slow to react. The information I got from that developer is...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Decarbonisation of the Heat Sector: Discussion (Resumed) (20 Jun 2023)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: It definitely makes sense. Grant schemes exist. If we are only talking about a small number of these, some companies could put the capital expenditure in and they would swap for biomass. They would be able to benefit from SEAI grant schemes. I am not sure that we have that part in play. Even if geothermal is theoretically possible, it need to be ensured that the grant scheme follows up....
