Michael Colreavy: I know from meetings at grassroots level that there is serious concern within the farming organisations. However, this does not seem to be expressed at national level. The Canadian farming organisation remained silent on the issue of fracking until fracking happened in Canada. However, the experience of the farmers there now has the organisation calling for a ban on any further fracking...

Michael Colreavy: It is wrong that a consultative committee like that does not have a representative of the community on it. That is wrong from the point of view of communications and creating awareness. The community representative could communicate both ways.

Michael Colreavy: There is TV footage easily available on such sites. However, I still do not know what input this committee will have with regard to whether to grant an exploratory licence and I do not know whether such a licence will permit hydraulic fracturing in order to test whether hydraulic fracturing is safe or unsafe.
