Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Fiscal Policy and Budgetary Planning: Discussion (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: I am sure Mr. O'Brien is aware that the deadline for submissions is 17 July. I ask him to show ambition in his engagement with the members of IBEC by asking them to make a submission to the effect that they support an exploration of the financial viability of this project. If it is found that the numbers can be supported, I would love to think that businesses in the west of Ireland will get...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Fiscal Policy and Budgetary Planning: Discussion (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: The line already exists. It has already been built. It would have to be-----

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Fiscal Policy and Budgetary Planning: Discussion (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: It is not a project that would be started from scratch. It has been broken into three phases. The first phase has been completed and that section of the line has reopened. We are exploring the possibility of moving on to the second and third phases. It is not the same as a brand-new capital project. The infrastructure is already on the ground. It would require revamping to allow the...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Fiscal Policy and Budgetary Planning: Discussion (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: I take Mr. Lucey's point on the lead-in time.

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Fiscal Policy and Budgetary Planning: Discussion (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: We have been waiting quite some time. We are always optimistic.

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Fiscal Policy and Budgetary Planning: Discussion (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: Yes. Project Ireland 2040 looks at the next 22 years. We are thinking about the longer term. We are planning for a population increase in the west of Ireland as well. This increase will not just be Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway, we also want it to happen in the west and the north west. It will not happen, however, without infrastructure and connectivity. There appears to be a view...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Fiscal Policy and Budgetary Planning: Discussion (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: They said the same thing about building an airport in Knock. Thankfully, Monsignor Horan did not listen and we have a fantastic facility at Ireland West Airport Knock. It is a major asset to the western region. Mr. O'Brien will agree that businesses in the west of Ireland-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Impact of Homelessness on Children: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: I apologise for missing the beginning of the meeting; we are all scheduled to deal with many things in these couple of days. Obviously, the homelessness issue is different across the regions. I come from a rural constituency and see homelessness presenting in slightly different ways where we have families living with grandparents or many people in one house. We do not have hubs and for the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Impact of Homelessness on Children: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: It is generally the same in County Mayo, but we have been able to push it in certain circumstances. There is discretion.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Impact of Homelessness on Children: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: Effectively they have to beg for a bed.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Impact of Homelessness on Children: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: The Tusla children and young persons services committees, CYPSCs, do great work on a localised basis. Each co-ordinator has significant autonomy in how he or she runs the committee for the county or district. Perhaps we might write to Tusla and the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs about the matter for children coming out of homelessness.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Impact of Homelessness on Children: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: I agree. It is perceived as an urban or city issue, but it is now being seen in rural communities also. My colleagues in other rural constituencies are saying the numbers presenting in their offices with this problem are increasing.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Impact of Homelessness on Children: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: They are undertaking that mapping in some CYPSC areas. It would be a good one for them on which to focus.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Impact of Homelessness on Children: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: An influx.

Other Questions: Brexit Preparations (18 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: 41. To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade his plans to mitigate delays at ports and disruptions to supply chains in the event of a no-deal Brexit; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25182/19]

Other Questions: Brexit Preparations (18 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: My question is to ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, as the Minister with overall responsibility for Brexit, about the plans in place to mitigate delays at ports and disruptions to supply chains in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Other Questions: Brexit Preparations (18 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: I do not need to explain how important the landbridge is to continuing successful trade and getting our goods to the mainland EU. That remains the fastest route to continental Europe, despite our best efforts to go direct. A significant proportion of our goods is destined for EU markets. This is, therefore, a significant threat to our economy and trade. Regarding the work of the...

Other Questions: Brexit Preparations (18 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: There will be significant disruption in the event of a no-deal Brexit no matter what we do. Our concern now is to mitigate against that disruption and to try to minimise the impact. That is particularly the case with our supply chains because we know that even a day or two of disruption could see empty shelves in respect of some products. That is a major concern for citizens. We know...

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Brexit Preparations (18 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: 36. To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade the status of the Brexit process and preparations for all Brexit scenarios, including no deal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25184/19]

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Brexit Preparations (18 Jun 2019)

Lisa Chambers: We are approaching the new Brexit deadline of 31 October and there is still much work to be done. My question seeks an update on the current state of the Brexit process and preparations for all Brexit scenarios, including the possibility of no deal.
