Other Questions: Dairy Sector (31 Mar 2015)

Helen McEntee: 154. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the current status of appointing a Teagasc dairy adviser for County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12805/15]

Other Questions: Dairy Sector (31 Mar 2015)

Helen McEntee: What is the current status of the appointment process for a Teagasc dairy adviser for County Meath?

Other Questions: Dairy Sector (31 Mar 2015)

Helen McEntee: I thank the Minister for his response and am glad to hear Teagasc hopes to appoint someone. I know it not something the Minister can simply sanction. There are rules and regulations, and with the moratorium on recruitment of staff, there are certain routes that must be taken. However, I come from a county that has a very dedicated farming community, in particular a very dedicated dairy...

Written Answers — Department of Finance: Disabled Drivers Grant Appeals (24 Mar 2015)

Helen McEntee: 286. To ask the Minister for Finance if a person (details supplied) in County Meath has made an appeal through the Medical Board under the Disabled Drivers and the Disabled Passengers Scheme 1994; if the appeal was unsuccessful, the other options available to this person especially if their condition has not deteriorated after six months of the appeal. [12019/15]

An Bille um an gCeathrú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht (Comhionannas Pósta) 2015: An Dara Céim (Atógáil) - Thirty-fourth Amendment of the Constitution (Marriage Equality) Bill 2015: Second Stage (Resumed) (11 Mar 2015)

Helen McEntee: I welcome the opportunity to speak on what is an important and historic debate in the Chamber. If the referendum is passed later this year it will be a momentous achievement of which I will be proud to be a part. My colleague, the Minister, Deputy Varadkar, said: "This is not a Bill about 'gay marriage', it is about 'equal marriage'. It is not about weakening one of the strongest...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Electoral Commission: Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government (10 Mar 2015)

Helen McEntee: I thank the Vice Chairman and the Minister. Much of what I intended to say has already been said and will be dealt with by the commission. In the context of boundaries, I come from a county where while one of my local councillors is a member of Meath County Council, when it comes to a general election, her constituents vote in the Louth area. I do not agree with this division. If someone...

Gender Recognition Bill 2014 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed) (5 Mar 2015)

Helen McEntee: This legislation is a very positive step that will allow a person to be recognised by the State in what they feel is their true gender. I spoke to a member of TENI, the Transgender Equality Network Ireland, during the week. He described it as the State providing practical and symbolic support for the people involved, a point with which I wholeheartedly agree. Ireland is the only country in...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Western Rail Corridor: Discussion (4 Mar 2015)

Helen McEntee: My questions are specific and are aimed at Mr. Cunningham and Mr. Grogan. They may or may not be able to answer them today, but perhaps they could come back to me. I come from a county that has three motorways going through it. We are very close to Dublin and in close proximity to the M50 and the airport, yet we have only one passenger train, which goes as far as Dunboyne in County Meath....

Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Select Sub-Committee on Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht: Estimates for Public Services 2015
Vote 33 - Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht (Revised)
(3 Mar 2015)

Helen McEntee: I thank the Minister and the two Ministers of State for their contributions. I will brief as I am aware of the time factor. In regard to the commemorations planned for next year, will any specific funding be targeted at local authorities or different community groups or allocated to commemoration activities involving young people and, if not, why not? In regard to the Culture Ireland...

Children and Family Relationships Bill 2015: Second Stage (Resumed) (25 Feb 2015)

Helen McEntee: I also commend the Minister on bringing this extremely important and progressive legislation to the Chamber. I also commend her predecessor, Deputy Shatter, whom I listened to previously and who I know was and still is extremely invested in this. It is important to state at this stage that this Government has placed more emphasis on and done more to protect the rights of the child than any...

Other Questions: Early Child Care Education (24 Feb 2015)

Helen McEntee: I thank the Minister for his response. As he has mentioned, we are extremely lucky in County Meath because a source of funding is provided through the HSE's disability sector. This helps with the assistance of children who are attending preschool years. This is something our county has decided to do and many parents and teachers are grateful for it. The problem is that the funding is not...

Other Questions: Early Child Care Education (24 Feb 2015)

Helen McEntee: I welcome the interdepartmental group. It is fantastic that the Departments are coming together. If funding is to come down the line, it would be a good idea to have the Departments work together on this and to avoid putting strain on any one particular Department. I look forward to hearing what comes out of this interdepartmental group, but the sooner the better for all involved.

Other Questions: Early Child Care Education (24 Feb 2015)

Helen McEntee: 125. To ask the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs if he will develop a nationwide scheme for equal access for children with special needs to the early childhood care and education scheme, which provides a free year of childhood care and education for children of preschool age; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7737/15]

Other Questions: Early Child Care Education (24 Feb 2015)

Helen McEntee: At the risk of repeating what has just been said, will the Minister consider developing a nationwide scheme to provide equal access for children with special needs? The early childhood care and education scheme currently provides a free preschool year of childhood care for all children, including children with special needs. This can be divided over two years, with six hours per week in the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Regulation of Gas Industry: Discussion (18 Feb 2015)

Helen McEntee: I thank both delegations for attending and for their presentations. It is important to make sure people are safe in their homes and to protect businesses and those who are registered and working legally. If 30,000 boilers have been installed and 12,000 certificates are returned, that means the other 18,000 are installed by unregistered gas installers. If there were only ten or 11...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Regulation of Gas Industry: Discussion (18 Feb 2015)

Helen McEntee: If the CER has no ability to police this without communication from the public and is not the one making the first move, does it need more power to carry this out or is it an impossible task?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Regulation of Gas Industry: Discussion (18 Feb 2015)

Helen McEntee: Does Ms Rooney agree that the CER needs more assistance to carry out that duty effectively?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Regulation of Gas Industry: Discussion (18 Feb 2015)

Helen McEntee: There was one question that was not answered, relating to those who are prosecuted. Is there follow-up to ensure they either register afterwards or leave the trade?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Regulation of Gas Industry: Discussion (18 Feb 2015)

Helen McEntee: One would hope a person would register after being prosecuted and fined, but is there a list that can be checked to see if the installers are continuing to work while unregistered?
