- Appointments to State Boards. (7 Oct 2008)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Returning to my earlier question, did the former Taoiseach make any appointments to State boards in the period from the announcement of to the date of his resignation? Did he consult the current Taoiseach â who was Taoiseach designate at the time â on his views regarding any such appointments? I have not had the same opportunity as previous speakers to put questions to the Taoiseach....
- Departmental Agencies. (7 Oct 2008)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Does the Taoiseach agree that the recent comment that the board of FÃS holding a two-day meeting at Mount Juliet recently was inappropriate in the current circumstances, was not the whole story? It should be just inappropriate full-stop, not just because of recessionary times. Indeed, in a time of plenty that type of culture should not be given any approval by Government for State agencies...
- Departmental Agencies. (7 Oct 2008)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: It is, of course. I beg the Ceann Comhairle's pardon. Question No. 6 refers to "the names of the persons appointed since May 2008 to State boards and agencies for which his Department is responsible". Of course it is relevant, that is the period when the former Taoiseach held office.

- Departmental Agencies. (7 Oct 2008)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Dare I ever doubt it? We can defer the question on these specific appointments if the Ceann Comhairle wishes. The monitors can be corrected. I will rest my question on the first issue raised, namely, a movement towards best practice and acceptable practice by all those entrusted to manage and oversee our State agencies and boards. What steps is the Taoiseach taking in this area?

- Establishment of Sub-Committee: Motion (2 Oct 2008)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: It is now almost six months since the Irish people rejected the Lisbon treaty. Opinion surveys by the European Commission office in Dublin, various newspapers and most recently the Government itself, have confirmed what we already knew. The people rejected the Lisbon treaty because it reduced Ireland's political strength in Europe, eroded neutrality and undermined workers' rights and public...

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: No, not at all.
- Credit Institutions (Financial Support) Bill 2008: From the Seanad (2 Oct 2008)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: If you had some patience, a Cheann Comhairle, you would see it will refer to the amendment. This crisis is a direct result of the reckless behaviour of leading players in the banking sector and the Government's failure to put in place adequate regulations to protectââ

- Credit Institutions (Financial Support) Bill 2008: From the Seanad (2 Oct 2008)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: I am well full of Second Stage speeches that were made all day on a Committee Stage amendment yesterday. The Ceann Comhairle facilitated that, so he can allow participation here this morning on these amendments. I could well be finished and we could be on the second amendment if I was not being continually pulled up. What is being proposed in this first amendment? We must have the...
- Credit Institutions (Financial Support) Bill 2008: From the Seanad (2 Oct 2008)
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin: Sinn Féin did not take its position in supporting this Bill lightly. We have our concerns and reservations but we decided to support the passage of the legislation because we believed it is about more than the banks. It is about offering security to ordinary citizensââ
