Alan Kelly: Motor tax for private vehicles registered from 1 July 2008 is charged on the basis of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The current issue at Volkswagen relates not to CO2emissions, but to nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx), and there is no impact on the rates of motor tax charged on the basis of CO2emissions.
