Seán Crowe: We have run out of time. I apologise to the staff. We were supposed to finish at 12.30 p.m. On behalf of the committee, I thank the witnesses for assisting us in our consideration of the report of the review of the operation of the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018. I thank them for their report. We will take the information and recommendations in the report away...
- Respite Care Services: Motion [Private Members] (30 May 2023)
Seán Crowe: We all have cases we could outline to the Ministers of State. The reality is that many families feel burnt out. It was timely that there was a pre-budget submission today from the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland. Its submission stated it was looking for an increase in the annual statutory investment in a centre for people with MS, and right across the board. There is common...
- Biodiversity Action: Statements (25 May 2023)
Seán Crowe: As mentioned by previous speakers, it was timely for National Biodiversity Week that researchers from Queen's University Belfast published a report containing some of the clearest evidence that we are failing utterly in our efforts even to limit the damage we are causing to the planet. The populations of half the animal species on earth are declining. This means more than just a few species...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: HSE National Service Plan 2023: Discussion (24 May 2023)
Seán Crowe: Before we move off the issue of the Neurological Alliance of Ireland, the witnesses say there are four teams. How does the HSE select those teams? Is it based on the highest demand in those areas? Is it because there is a partial team in the area? We do not have a team in some areas with the highest numbers in the country.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: HSE National Service Plan 2023: Discussion (24 May 2023)
Seán Crowe: The HSE has a partial team and has identified a number of people to move ahead with that. Granted, it is in an area where there is nothing.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: HSE National Service Plan 2023: Discussion (24 May 2023)
Seán Crowe: Would it not make more sense if it was in an area of higher demand?

Seán Crowe: I know that. I am just scoring points.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: HSE National Service Plan 2023: Discussion (24 May 2023)
Seán Crowe: I have a couple of questions. First of all, I welcome the plan. It is a huge amount of money. For the plan to work, there are a lot of moving parts. Clearly, the beds issue is one that has to be addressed. I welcome the HSE statement this morning about moving ahead with the 1,500 suggestion. For example, and I accept these are always local issues, etc., I was looking back in relation...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: HSE National Service Plan 2023: Discussion (24 May 2023)
Seán Crowe: Looking at the challenges that we faced last year as part of the plan, are there proposals in relation to what we could do differently? I am thinking in terms of supports for those young mothers who were in that situation out of hours, such as the ability to telephone someone to ask if something is normal, not normal or whatever. Maybe there is something that could be done in that regard. ...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: HSE National Service Plan 2023: Discussion (24 May 2023)
Seán Crowe: We now have to bring the meeting to an end. The witnesses might revert to us with any views they may have regarding those challenges regarding the eye and ear hospital. I am not being critical of the system, but it clearly needs tweaking. I thank the HSE for assisting the committee in its consideration of the HSE national service plan for 2023. The committee will continue its ongoing...
- Hospital Waiting Lists: Motion [Private Members] (23 May 2023)
Seán Crowe: The Oireachtas health committee has consistently heard from health service workers and their unions that staff are at constant risk of burnout. Recruitment and retention remain at crisis levels as young graduates seek better pay and working conditions elsewhere, despite their express wish to remain in Ireland. This makes it impossible to legislate for mandatory staffing levels in hospitals...

[22706/23]

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Business of Joint Committee (10 May 2023)
Seán Crowe: Apologies have been received from Deputy Gino Kenny.
