Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Fire Service (9 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: 166. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government the up-to-date position on the review of retained fire services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11823/23]

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Report of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: I thank the witnesses for their submissions and their answers. I was listening in earlier. I will focus on two brief points. In moving towards a low-carbon economy the commission is recommending the phasing out of fossil fuel subsidies. I am aware that the commission is looking at various options and alternatives there. This will put phenomenal pressure on people in some areas. I am...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Report of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Before we move on from the issue of home heating, many people do not qualify for social welfare but they need their homes heated as well. To face into a €30,000, €40,000 or €50,000 conversion of the house is out of reach for many households, despite the grants. It is great to focus on those on lower income but there is a whole cohort of people who are not on social...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Report of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: The witnesses covered a lot of the areas in which I am particularly interested. One of the recommendations in the commission's report is on reducing fossil fuels subsidies. There are no alternatives in many different areas. It is difficult to see silage being done with an electric tractor, although it might be possible. It is difficult to see whether the fleet of lorries on the road would...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Report of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: I am conscious of the time. I have another question as well and I need to get the road hauliers' view on it as well.

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Report of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Maybe I could ask another short question instead of that answer.

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Report of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: I will forego that response. One of the areas where there is common ground is that in farming, you often work on your own. When you are on the road, you are often on your own. Public health, well-being and loneliness are major issues. Are there any views on what can be done to tackle this?

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Report of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Is there any view from the IFA in that regard?

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Report of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: There is huge opportunity there. We are talking about a couple of hundred euro for conversion of a heating system versus thousands to switch over to an underfloor heating system. I understand that much of the emphasis is to keep HVO for transport but there is real scope there and it would be very much worth looking at the possibility of using HVO.

Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Seachtain na Gaeilge: Cruinniú leis na Scoileanna (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Tá mé buíoch de na finnéithe as ucht a gcuid cur i láthair. Tá an-chuid taighde déanta acu ar na hábhair agus tá sé sin soiléir ó na pointí éagsúla a rinneadh. Luaigh Alex Sláintecare agus an plean a bhí in ann dúinn agus an tslí go mbeadh an comhoibriú an-tábhachtach. Aontaím...

Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Seachtain na Gaeilge: Cruinniú leis na Scoileanna (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Tá an Teachta ag smaoineamh ar Theachta ó Chontae Mhuineacháin, seachas an Teachta Ó Muineacháin.

Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Seachtain na Gaeilge: Cruinniú leis na Scoileanna (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Go raibh maith ag na finnéithe as ucht an tuairisc. Tá an-suim agam ann. Tá ceist an-deacair curtha ansin ag Oisín. An bhfuilimid neodrach i ndáiríre, nó díreach nuair a oireann sé dúinn? Tá an-chuid tuairimí éagsúla sa mhéid a dúirt na finnéithe agus tá a lán pointí an-réasúnta...

Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Seachtain na Gaeilge: Cruinniú leis na Scoileanna (8 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Go raibh maith ag an finnéithe. Díreoidh mé isteach ar cheist amháin. Tá sé soiléir go bhfuil dea-thoil ann le dul i ngleic le cúrsaí ach ag an am céanna tá tuairimí éagsúla ag dreamanna difriúla mar gheall ar cé chomh tapa nó mall a tharlóidh rudaí agus conas a dhéanfar rudaí a...

Aindrias Moynihan: 136. To ask the Minister for Finance his engagement with the insurance companies that provide home insurance to ensure new-build passive housing can secure home insurance; if he is aware of the difficulties with new flat-roof options for passive housing being declined for home insurance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11326/23]

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Flood Risk Management (2 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Tá mé ag éileamh ar an Aire Stáit tuairisc a thabhairt ar an obair atá idir lámha aige chun cosaint a thabhairt do phobal Bhaile Bhuirne, Béal Átha an Ghaorthaidh, Inse Geimhleach agus Baile Mhic Íre ó na tuilte. Is cúis buartha é do phobal go mbeadh baol ann ón tuile. Tá obair planned le fada. Will the Minister of State...

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Flood Risk Management (2 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Works on the River Sullane have been planned for a number of years. There was an exhibition in the Abbey Hotel. I acknowledge that quite a bit of background work is being done, between surveys and reports. However, there is a struggle to get temporary works carried out in the area. The OPW has handed over the lead role to Cork County Council. What prompted that move? Tá an-chuid...

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Flood Risk Management (2 Mar 2023)

Aindrias Moynihan: Ballingeary has suffered flooding from both the Lee and Bunsheelin rivers over many years. When they flood it impacts on householders, businesses and the road, but also the defective sewage treatment plant, which results in flooding in amenity areas such as football pitches. Has that been factored in to the case for promoting or pressing forward a scheme in Ballingeary? I understand...
