Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (Amendment) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report and Final Stages (31 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Iarraim nóiméad amháin eile.

Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (Amendment) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report and Final Stages (31 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Tá siad imithe go huile agus go hiomlán inniu.

Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (Amendment) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report and Final Stages (31 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Rialacha an tSnodaigh atá i gceist anseo. Glacaim leis an méid a dúirt an tAire Stáit ach níl spriocdháta ann. An nglacann Rannóg an Aistriúcháin leis gur seo an tosaíocht agus go bhfuil gach rud eile ar leataobh, agus nach mór leis an rannóg deileáil leis na riaráistí agus reachtaíocht reatha agus nach...

Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (Amendment) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report and Final Stages (31 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I move amendment No. 9:In page 8, between lines 25 and 26, to insert the following: “(2F) It shall be a function of the Commission to provide clarification on An Caighdeán Oifigiúil from time to time, as it considers appropriate, in relation to questions of grammar and spelling which arise from the day-to-day work of Rannóg an Aistriúchán.”. Tá an...

Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (Amendment) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report and Final Stages (31 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Tuigim an méid atá á rá ag an Teachta Ó Cuív. Aontaím leis ar a lán bealaí. Pacáiste iomlán atá ins na leasaithe atá molta agamsa, ó thaobh acmhainní cuí a thabhairt do Rannóg an Aistriúcháin chun déileáil le riaráisti, le go mbeadh gach rud foilsithe go comhionnanach. Mar sin,...

Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (Amendment) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report and Final Stages (31 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I move amendment No. 7: In page 8, between lines 21 and 22, to insert the following: “(2E) Any such translations carried out by a person other than the Commission shall be referred to the Commission for consideration and approval. Such translations shall not be published until such time as the Commission has granted their approval of the translation. (2F) Without prejudice to...

Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (Amendment) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report and Final Stages (31 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Níl a fhios agam an dtacaím le seo, ach tá ceist spéisiúil ardaithe ag an Teachta Ó Cuív a ardaíonn arís an fhadhb a bhí againn ar Chéim an Choiste. De gnáth, bheadh muid in ann é seo a phlé ar Chéim an Choiste. Measaim gur cóir go mbeadh caighdeán amháin ann agus go mbeach gach píosa...

Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (Amendment) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report and Final Stages (31 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: An fáth gur luaigh me iad sin mar nach raibh Céim an Choiste ceart againn ag an gCéim sin. Ní ar duine amháin atá an locht faoi sin, baineann cuid den locht linne, cuid leis an Aire Stáit agus cuid leis an gCathaoirleach a bhí againn ar an lá. Ní raibh aon deifir leis an reachtaíocht. Ghlac muid leis ag an am go mbeadh muid ag teacht...

Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (Amendment) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report and Final Stages (31 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Aontaím leis an Teachta Ó Cuív. Ritheann sé seo le roinnt des na leasaithe a leagadh síos agamsa. Ba chóir go mbéadh an smacht ag Tithe an Oireachtais, ina iomlán, maidir leis an gcaighdeán oifigiúil, ach go háirithe ó thaobh stair na teanga agus cé chomh tábhachtach is ata sí, agus toisc gur teanga í atá...

Houses of the Oireachtas Commission (Amendment) Bill 2012 [Seanad]: Report and Final Stages (31 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Bhí mé ag cur mo nótaí le chéile nuair a sheas mé don chéad uair, agus seo an rud atá i gceist agam. Ní aontaím leis an Teachta Ó Cuív sa chás seo. Aontaím gur chóir go mbéadh an smacht ag Tithe an Oireachtais. Mar a mholaim i leasú 16, is gá do Thithe an Oireachtais, tríd rannóg an...

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: To ask the Minister for Health the reason the recent breakthrough drug available in Britain to cystic fibrosis sufferers is not being made available here; and his views on the Health Service Executives approach to addressing the shortfall in services and facilities to help cystic fibrosis sufferers here [4899/13]

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (30 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I agree with Deputy Boyd Barrett. Other countries have introduced legislation governing the height of trees in suburban areas. The Minister is suggesting that mediation may be a solution but the more practical option is to address the matter through local authority by-laws on a case-by-case basis. Local authorities could introduce by-laws to deal with the overhanging aspect of trees where...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (30 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: The petitioner has a valid case that, given the scale of suicide rates, the State should have a similar campaign that it had for drink-driving. It would serve a useful purpose if we invited the Minister of State with responsibility for mental health to the committee to outline her plans for a State campaign to tackle suicide which is blighting our country.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions: Election of Chairman (30 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I propose Deputy Pádraig Mac Lochlainn.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions: Election of Chairman (30 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Gabhaim comhghairdeachas leis an gCathaoirleach agus tá a fhios agam go ndéanfaidh an coiste ar fad amach as seo an obair mhaith a rinne sé go dtí seo. It is a challenging time for the committee. We are only beginning to get our teeth into the work that has been set out for us. It was a long time in gestation but there is a programme of work in place now which would be...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Plean Athchóirithe an Rialtais don tSeirbhí Phoiblí (30 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: D'fhág an Teachta Tóibín roinnt ceisteanna a bhí sé ag iarraidh a chur ar an Aire Stáit. Tá roinnt acu freagraithe cheana féin, maidir leis an seasamh a bheidh ag an gCoimisinéir Teanga. An mbeidh an Coimisinéir Teanga neamhspleách ina iomlán. Tá an t-Aire Stáit tar éis a rá go mbeidh sé tofa go...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Plean Athchóirithe an Rialtais don tSeirbhí Phoiblí (30 Jan 2013)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Ceann des na fadhbanna atá ann maidir le hoifigí Stáit, nach mbíonn Gaeilge ag an chéad duine a labhraíonn leat nuair a chuireann tú glaoch orthu. Má déantar an cónascadh seo, an cinnte go mbeidh Gaeilge ag na daoine a bhéas ag déileáil leis an bpobal sa dá oifig, seachas duine ag fanacht ar an nguthán go dtiocfaidh...

Leaders' Questions (30 Jan 2013)
